MONO AND STEREO DIFFERENCES:
Of all Byrds albums, The Notorious Byrd Brothers has the most differences between the stereo and mono mixes.
The horns on "Artificial Energy" are noticeably quieter on the mono mix.
The cello sections during the chorus of "Goin' Back" are much quieter on the mono mix.
Where the stereo mix of "Natural Harmony" has a lot of double-tracking on the vocals, this is almost non-existent on the mono mix. To make up for the lack of double-tracking, the mono mix adds extra electronic phasing to the vocals.
The mono mix of "Change Is Now" has more echo on the vocals, which tends to give the song a "spacier" feel.
The Moog synthesizer sound effects on "Space Odyssey" vary in volume on the Mono, they are constant on the Stereo

The recording sessions for the Byrds' fifth album, The Notorious Byrd Brothers, were conducted in the midst of internal turmoil that found them reduced to a duo by the time the record was completed. That wasn't evident from listening to the results, which showed the group continuing to expand the parameters of their eclecticism while retaining their hallmark guitar jangle and harmonies. With assistance from producer Gary Usher, they took more chances in the studio, enhancing the spacy quality of tracks like "Natural Harmony" and Goffin & King's "Wasn't Born to Follow" with electronic phasing. Washes of Moog synthesizer formed the eerie backdrop for "Space Odyssey," and the songs were craftily and unobtrusively linked with segues and fades. But the Byrds did not bury the essential strengths of their tunes in effects: "Goin' Back" (also written by Goffin & King) was a magnificent and melodic cover with the expected tasteful 12-string guitar runs that should have been a big hit. "Tribal Gathering" has some of the band's most effervescent harmonies; "Draft Morning" is a subtle and effective reflection of the horrors of the Vietnam War; and "Old John Robertson" looks forward to the country-rock that would soon dominate their repertoire

LABELS: CLEAN and BRIGHT with little wear and NO marks or unwanted writing but they do display quite a few spindle traces. The record has been well played but also extremely well cared for as is evident from the beautifully kept sleeve and the stunning audio
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN and any marks on the vinyl are just pressing blemishes, these have NO audio consequence - there are NO scratches and the record has tremendous playback
VINYL Audio: OUTSTANDING audio - CRYSTAL CLEAR, VERY SHARP, FRESH and IMMEDIATE SOUND - SENSATIONAL MONO MIX. There are NO scratches, NO sticks/jumps, NO clicks or pops and the LP plays to a very, very high standard with NO groove-wear or distortion - SOUNDS GREAT. Must be graded EXCELLENT++ for audio and NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'about me' page). BEAUTIFUL COPY - SOUNDS ITS ABSOLUTE BEST IN THIS ORIGINAL MONO MIX
SLEEVE: The FRONT LAMINATED EJ DAY cover is in EXCELLENT+ condition. The front laminate has a nice deep gloss and the back - normally found heavily rubbed and ring marked (due to its black nature) is also in BEAUTIFUL condition. Just about the best sleeve I have seen for this MONO press. SUPERB
