In 1970, the ultra-rare CAINE MUTINY MOVIE SOUNDTRACK LP
ALBUM was re-issued by the Cinesound company in a limited
edition of 1000 pressings for serious audiophiles who had long
wanted to own a copy of the recording for their collection. This is
one of those scarce 1000 re-release albums in clean, superb
condition. Here’s the story of why the original album was never
officially released:
The original 1954 soundtrack album for The Caine Mutiny was
never officially released, and hence it is one of the rarest in
existence; only a dozen or so copies are thought to survive.
At the time of the movie's release, RCA planned to issue an LP
soundtrack with musical excerpts and the complete dialogue of
the climactic court-martial scene, but the author of the novel,
Herman Wouk felt that including this scene was an infringement
on his recently opened Broadway play of the story. He expressed
his profound displeasure to Columbia Pictures, causing studio head
Harry Cohn to suddenly order a halt to the distribution of the freshly
printed albums. The film is considered one of the finest screen dramas
of all time with Humphrey Bogart’s stunning performance as the mentally
unbalanced Commander Queeg being particularly memorable.
The soundtrack album contains an hour of music and dialogue …
here’s a track listing of the material on this LP:
Side A :
- The Bright Young Men
- I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me
- The Junkyard Navy
- The Tow
- Yellowstain Blues
- Mental Disorders
- Heavy Weather Ahead
- The Typhoon
Side B :
1. The Court Martial
Here's a chance to own and hear the rare 1970 re-release of this 12" record album
containing all the same audio tracks as the virtually unobtainable original unreleased
1954 version, which is now considered the most desirable and valuable soundtrack
recording in history.
