The first studio album of the Charles Lloyd Quartet, with Keith Jarrett, Cecil McBee, and Jack DeJohnette, was recorded and released just a few days before the band took both the European and American festival circuits by storm.
While the live dates are now the stuff of legend, it's easy to overlook the recordings, but to do so would be a mistake.
Dream Weaver is a fully realised project by a band -- a real band -- in which each member has a unique part of the whole to contribute.
Jarrett's unusual piano style fits musically with Lloyd's lyricism in a way that it shouldn't.
Jarrett was even then an iconoclast, playing harmonic figures from the inside out and relying on counterpoint to create new spaces, not fill them in. (Just listen to "Autumn Sequence," where his solos and his backing harmonics are equally strident and inventive as Lloyd's Eastern explorations of mood and mode.)
And then there's the rhythm section of McBee and DeJohnette, whose modal inventions on the intervals make the "Dream Weaver" suite an exercise in open time, allowing all players to wander around inside it and take what they want out.
The set closes with a group party jam on "Sombrero Sam," with Lloyd and Jarrett trading eights on a Cuban variation on a fantasia.
There were no records like this one by new groups in 1966

LABELS: MINT-
Clean, bright and unmarked labels with barely any spindle markings to be seen
VINYL Visual: MINT-
Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen and appear unmarked in normal light with just wispy hairlines visible under very bright light
VINYL Audio: MINT
Sensational copy which plays beautifully throughout with no audio issues of note.
Played just once or twice on top quality equipment the sound performance is flawless - crystal clear, clean and fresh with no hint of surface noise, not even on the very delicate/very quiet sections of the flute solos on 'Autumn Sequence'
SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
The front laminated sleeve is clean and unmarked with no real wear to speak of - just a very, very light crease to the bottom opening corner (more of a light bend than a firm crease).
The edge are crisp and square and all text on the (very thin) spine is clear and bold.
The front laminate has a deep, glossy sheen and the unlaminated back is still remarkably white
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
The original 1966 poly-lined inner is clean and unmarked with no seam splits.
The previous owner has written the catalogue number and album title neatly in the bottom corner

ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVE WITH ANTI-STATIC LINER, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
