The Chico Hamilton Quintet debuted on this important Pacific Jazz LP (Vogue in the UK).
One of the last significant West Coast jazz units, Hamilton's band had Buddy Collette on reeds (flute, tenor, clarinet and alto), guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Carson Smith, the drummer/leader and, most importantly, cellist Fred Katz.
A chamber jazz unit that hinted in spots at classical music, this cool jazz band was quite ahead of its time.
Unfortunately, most of Hamilton's early recordings have yet to be reissued on CD, but this LP (which has been repackaged several times) can sometimes be located.
Highlights include "A Nice Day," "I Want to Be Happy," "My Funny Valentine" and Chico Hamilton's classic feature on "Blue Sands."

I Want To Be Happy (2:05)
Spectacular (5:04)

LABELS: NEAR MINT
An immaculate set of clean, unmarked labels - couple of light spindles
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT
Both surfaces shine like-new - some light marks - all harmless
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
An outstanding barely played copy which delivers clean sound throughout - unusual reed/cello combo which sounds great - pretty out-there in places for the time - great stuff and very, very highly recommended
SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
As crisp, sharp and fresh as the day it was made - natural discolouration to the white back - nothing really
