I'm never comfortable listing The Clash under 'Punk' because I feel they were so much more than that limited straightjacket description. But, as usual with eBay, the tail wags the dog...and its witless and unimaginative use of 'genres' is, frankly, meaningless. But what would I know?

This a double LP on Complete Control records limited to 200 copies in red vinyl, plus a one-sided bonus 12" in black vinyl of soundcheck recordings. The red discs contain live recordings and some rehearsal recordings. From the track listing I'm guessing they originate from around the time of the Lomdon Calling LP and Tour. The sound quality is very acceptable for a release that may not be official; I wouldn't know about that. The soundcheck recordings are of a lesser quality but contain rare and historically important music by, well, THE CLASH!

This LP is new and was bought by me at the Durham Punk Festival last week. There are a few little scuffs and creases on the cover; however, it is still new. Bear in mind that there are three 12" records in a single sleeve; some creasing is inevitable. Never bought a new LP with creases? To paraphrase the Clash's great (non) rivals the Pistols, Bollocks! Please note that this triple record with packaging weighs nearly 800g.

Having said that, an individual’s listening experience can only be subjective. It will depend on all kinds of factors – your system; condition of stylus; lay-out of room and furnishings; your hearing; all kinds of other things. If I hear a tiny crackle on a run-in groove, quite frankly it probably won’t bother me. If you’re looking at, say, a 50 year old record that I’m offering and you choose to bid based on the photos and the description I provide then please don’t come whining about it if there’s a little bit of crackle and it is not ‘mint’. I have bought brand new, ‘mint’, records on the day of release that have crackled; conversely, I have played records with multiple surface marks that play great. You will be able to tell if it’s not mint very, very easily; I WILL SAY IN THE LISTING THAT IT’S NOT MINT! Even then, some of you won’t understand this. And I’m not talking about those ebayers whose first language is not English. If you’re the kind of witless individual that buys, to choose an example totally not at random, a 50-odd year old record for a few quid and then asks for your money back because there’s a little crackle on the run in on side 2 then, please, do me a favour. Can you guess what that favour is? It begins and ends with an ‘F’…

I gave the Bonus 12" a quick spin and the sound quality is actually not bad. It includes a long instrumental version of Stay Free and a great instrumental version of Clampdown. Both are well worth hearing...
