Description
THE CLASH Live at the Palladium NYC, USA, 09/21/1979 LP vol.2 LP JAPAN
Unfortunately, this is the most widely circulated Clash bootleg. Why ‘unfortunately?’ Well, it’s not a particularly good show to listen to. I am sure it was fabulous to be there, but Mick’s monster guitar blows Joe’s voice away on many of the tracks, and the playing seems to be hurried and unfocused. That being said, there is plenty to love here. The sound is hot (at least on the LP version I have) and the opening salvo of ‘Safe’, ‘USA’ and ‘Control’ is astonishing. The version of ‘Capitol Radio’ is absolutely tooth-gnashing, despite Mick’s fuckups on the breaks.Arguably the most famous concert in the history of The Clash; the night of the ‘ultimate rock photo’ and cover of London Calling and the source of probably the most widely circulated Clash bootleg from the FM radio broadcast. Critical acclaim following the gig was also significant in pushing further the band’s profile in the US. WNEW FM recorded the complete concert and this high quality stereo broadcast is the source of all the recordings in circulation. This was the second of the two concerts at the seated and sold out Palladium on New York’s 14th Street. The 3,800 seater Palladium on New York’s 14th Street was an old converted theatre, as ornate as London’s Lyceum but sleazier with drug pushers plying their trade outside. © www.blackmarketclash.com
