They don't make records like this anymore, try as they might. The Constant Sound was a studio conglomeration that was amalgamated to record the music of producers Elliot and Ferguson. It utilized the talents of famed session musicians The Wrecking Crew, as well as a group of singers who could harmonize like few others. These were all blended to produce what may be the zenith of sunshine pop albums. Indeed, I've never heard an LP that so epitomized the sound that was quite popular in the mid '60s mainstream market. And while many contemporary acts attempt to replicate this sound using today's studio wizardry, it never seems to come off just right, with a sound that was seemingly so easy to produce back at that time. This album is highly consistently good and I enjoyed it more than I expected. If I had to come up with any criticism at all, it would be that most of the material on here all sounds perhaps a tad too much alike over the course of the entire record. And while that sound is truly excellent, there are no really memorable melodies that you will capture and find yourself humming the rest of the day. It's all about the male/female vocal harmony. So when it's raining cats and dogs outside, slip this one on the platter and forget about the clouds. You'll be surfing on a wave of sunshine that hasn't come this way in a long time. The original album was only released as a demo, in extremely limited numbers, perhaps less than two dozen. But the owners of the musical rights approached the folks at Lysergic Sound to legitimately reissue this gem, and it is now available for us all.
