Description

Ptooff! is a 1968 album by the UK underground group The Deviants. Mick Farren and Russell Hunter had met 21 year old millionaire Nigel Samuel who funded the £700 required for this recording. Eight thousand copies were sold on their own Underground Impressario label via mail order through the UK Underground press, such as Oz and International Times, before being picked up and released by Decca Records. Re-released in the mid-1980s by Psycho Records.§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ The sleeve came in a 6 panel foldout with extensive notes including a review by John Peel: "there is little that is not good, much that is excellent and the occasional flash of brilliance" Tested with Treble Full: VG++to VG- (occasional silence in places). Surfaces marks etc but a good original pressing on thick vinyl - surface tick etc more noticeable on quieter passages - fidelity of groove nice overall. Fold out sleeve intact and pretty good. Strong colours and great underground hippy artwork! Vg- to EX-- for overall sleeve. NO RESERVE on this piece of mindless psych history! Labels show spindle wear but still cool colour and what appears to be a screen printed text on label.......Mad album - be warned! P&P UK approx £2.50 Overseas more - require your zipcode and area thanks. Rarely comes up for auction. Good luck. Matrix numbers in runout: IMPS 001 A-1 IMPS 001 B-1. The bottom of the reads : PTOOFF! is released by Underground Impressarios Ltd, 22 Betterton Street, London W.C.2. Copyright Underground Inpressarios 1968.
