The Doors were an American psychedelic blues rock band formed from "Rick And The Ravens" in July, 1965 in Los Angeles, CA by Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek. After the death of Jim Morrison on July 3, 1971 in Paris, the other band members released two more albums, but they were not very successful. In April 1973 the band broke up.

Jim Morrison's singing style is incomparable. I can't think of any other singer who could have applied their voice to these song lyrics, with this basic musical accompaniment, and still produced exceptional results. I can't take anything away from the obvious talent of The Doors' musicians, but without Morrison, these songs would only be ordinary rather than extraordinary. He was adept at summoning up the emotions and vocal range that was tailor made to fit the mood and message of the song at hand. Morrison seemed to really be in tune with his music more so than some other popular singers I've listened to.
