The Doors : L.A. Woman A1 / B1 1st Press Variation 1971

This classic album plays with stunning quality across both sides and I do not think I have heard better.  The clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is phenomenal and if S1 is A1 then S2 is A1+++!!  Only one track 'Cars Hiss By My Window' is Near Mint, all the others are Mint- or Mint, and that is only because of a handful of minor statics.  There are no clicks or pops anywhere.  There are so many highlights but 'Riders On The Storm' is easily the most pristine version I have ever listened to.  The vinyl is in superb condition and I would not be surprised if it had never been played before, maybe once or twice at most.  Definitely a FINAL UPGRADE version.

The iconic 'cellophane window' cover is in excellent condition with only a little wear and the yellow inner is in very good shape.

This is either a first press variation or a second pressing but either way it was still pressed in '71.  It has a small V on the labels below the catalogue and the inner sleeve is made of paper not card.  The cover clearly is still a first press version.

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no scratches.  S1 just has one very small faint hairline scuff mark that has no affect on the audio and you can only see it under a bright light at a certain angle, it hardly needs a mention!  Aside from that it is visually stunning and I cannot even find any obvious hairlines.  The run groves are very clean and the Elektra Butterfly labels are in great condition with no spindle wear.  A superb example.

Play grading  

The intro on 'The Changeling' plays remarkable precision with not even a single dust tick and Morrison's opening vocal section is of the same exact standard.  Scheff's bass is so strong and deep and that adds to the sublime depth of sound here.  It continues in the same way with crystal clear audio and the 'busy' ending has no intrusion either.  One quiet static on the fade out but Mint is still fair.

The classic 'Love Her Madly' plays with stunning quality from start to finish with no interference of any kind.  Once again the vinyl shows just how infrequently it has been played, the clarity of sound cannot be faulted.  Morrison's vocal is so clean and precise and the music could not play any clearer.  Mint

The opening vocal on 'Been Down So Long' is more or less perfect with just one super quiet static (blink and you miss it!) and from then on plays with impeccable quality.  There is no static distortion on Morrison's powerful vocal and the mid instrumental is superb, great sound on Krieger's guitar.  Every section plays with such quality and there are only a couple of barely audible statics on the rest of the track.  It is Mint- and I am sure many would say that is too critical!

The quiet intro on 'Cars Hiss By My Window' has no background and the opening vocal is just as good.  A low key number by their standards and it continues to play with a sonic quality that could not be beaten.  Ok a couple of statics during the mid instrumental but they are so so quiet and do not detract from the audio.  The final vocal / instrumental is very clean with only a handful of minor statics but again they are totally non-intrusive.  I will say Near Mint but it has to be said that the playback is stunning throughout.

The intro on 'L.A. Woman' just has a hint of mega quiet static right at the start but as soon as Densmore and Scheff join in the audio is fantastic!  The sonic quality on this entire intro is immense!  Morrison's first vocal is equal to that and again there is no distortion.  As it progresses you really notice just how clean and precise the audio is and the quieter section  just before the Mojo risin' vocal is a prime example of that.  This powerful 'anagram' vocal section (!) then plays with breathtaking quality - you might expect some inner groove distortion here but there is none and the following instrumental is stunning also.  The even more powerful ending plays with sublime quality and this is easily a Mint- track.  A superb classic track with audio to match.

The intro on 'L'America' is phenomenal.  The quiet start has only a couple of minor statics and the clarity really cannot be faulted, there is no underlying static at all.  As it builds the depth and warmth of the music is 'as new' and opening vocal with Densmore's driving percussion is just as impressive.  It continues in the same way and the instrumental section with Manzarek to the fore is incredible!  The following vocal has just 2/3 very quiet statics and the build up ending could not play any better.  I cannot overstate just how strong this version is and it demands to be turned up to loud!  It easily deserves a Mint- grade, it is easily one of the best versions I have ever heard, if not top of the tree :-)

'Hyacinth House' plays with STUNNING quality through every vocal and instrumental section as simple as that.  I have played it twice now and there is no background to speak of.  The depth and warmth of the music is again comparable to an unplayed record and it has to grade as Mint

'Crawling King Snake' is of the same high end standard with zero intrusion.  Has this record ever been played ha ha?!  The original sonic quality is still very much there and again Mint is deserved.

The intro on 'The WASP...' plays to perfection, Scheff once more the driving force.  Morrison's opening 'vocal' has no interference and it continues in the same way with only one very quiet tick.  The instrumental section is flawless and the final vocal is just as impressive.  I will say Mint- but maybe that is a little harsh.

The entire intro on the classic 'Riders On The Storm' is 'as new' and the opening vocal has no background either.  As perfect a start that you could wish for, the audio is just STUNNING!  From then on it plays with exceptional quality and the long instrumental section with Manzarek very much leading it is so clean and precise....again.  I cannot believe what I am listening to here as the entire 7+ minutes plays with a clarity, depth and warmth straight from '71.  All of the 'weather' sections play beautifully with literally no intrusion and this is without doubt the most 'complete' version I have ever heard, the definitive version you could say.  I mean even the fade out plays with 100% accuracy!  This is Mint in every single way in case you hadn't realised!

The 'Cellophane Window' Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in excellent condition with not too much shelf wear.  The edges have very little rubbing and the thin spine is still clean albeit slightly compressed.  All four rounded corners have barely any wear and the opening edge has no handling wear but does have a couple of 'waves' which you can see on the front cover, perhaps it could be flattened out with a little work.  The front cover is in great shape with just one faint crease near the bottom left corner and very minimal rubbing around the cellophane window.  The actual cellophane is still perfectly in place also.  The back cover just has a couple of minor blemishes.  A very strong example overall.

As stated this yellow insert is made of paper and has a little wear / splitting towards the bottom of one edge and a small number of small faint spots.  Some light creasing also.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
