The Doors : Morrison Hotel A1/B1 1st Press
This first pressing on the red Elektra label plays 'as new' with no 'background' at all. As described below every track plays with sensational clarity, power and depth and even the quieter passages play with stunning precision. I know it's hard to believe but I did not detect one single tick, click or pop and there is no background static. This is about as good as it gets basically! It will come as no surprise to hear that the vinyl is visually stunning and shows barely any sign of being played.
The MacNeill cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear but unfortunately does have a name written on the back cover. The inner is in superb shape with barely any wear.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in fantastic condition with an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen and of course no groove wear, it really does gleam! There are no marks or scratches and I can only detect a handful of very faint sleeve removal hairlines. The red Elektra labels are super clean with no marking or writing and only very minimal spindle wear. This is about as good as it gets and goes some way to explaining why the audio is as immaculate as it is!
Play grading
The intro on the classic 'Roadhouse Blues' is stunning, 'as new' in fact and the first vocal is of the same exact quality. It continues to play with sensational audio with no interference. The mid instrumental is faultless and there is such depth and warmth to the music, something you only get with vinyl of course. This is as good a start that you could wish for and even the fade out has no 'background'. Mint is an honest assessment of the audio. What a start!
With complete silence in the dead wax 'Waiting For The Sun' plays to the same 'high end' standard with no intrusion. Again the sheer depth and resonance of sound is so impressive. In essence it plays like it was pressed only yesterday. Another Mint track.
'You Make Me Real' plays with great power and depth from the outset and the clarity is as per the previous two tracks. Once again there is no interference and Mint is very much deserved.
'Peace Frog' again impresses on so many levels and there are no ticks, clicks or pops and no static either. The quieter mid section plays with sublime precision and proceeds in the same way. The quiet end section again has no 'background' and Mint is an easy grade to give.
The segue into 'Blue Sunday' is faultless and when you consider this is a 'gentle' number the clarity is amazing! There is not so much as a dust tick and every vocal and instrumental section plays with STUNNING audio. I do not use the the term 'Mint' loosely and only by playing every track in full am I able to give a 'complete' grading. If there is even a light tick let alone a click etc I will mention it. I am pleased to say this track is Mint in every single way.
'Ship Of Fools' ends the side with wonderful audio and, you guessed it, no interference. There is perhaps just a minor touch of inner groove distortion but you may not even notice it. It is so minimal and I may be doing myself a disservice by even mentioning it! The playback is phenomenal and Mint- is well deserved.

'Land Ho!' on S2 plays with imperious quality from start to finish with no interference. The clarity and definition of the audio is unbelievable and the brief 'silent' section is exactly that, silent, giving you an idea of the clarity on offer here. Another fade out with no 'background' and a Mint start to the side.
The intro on 'The Spy' plays with immaculate precision and this standard is maintained throughout. I do not wish to sound repetitive but the audio on this album is absolutely breathtaking. This is another track that belies the age of the album and every section plays with amazing sonic quality. The quiet end section is a case in point, no 'background' whatsoever. Mint
I'm not going to overelaborate here - 'Queen Of The Highway' is 'as new' with literally no interference, just pure unadulterated Mint audio from the first note to the last. A stunning version.
The quiet intro on 'Indian Summer' plays beautifully and it continues in the same way with STUNNING quality. Each note is so clean and precise and once again the audio is so strong and deep. What a version! For a quiet number to play with such distinction on a record that is over 50 years old is so rare. Mint
'Maggie M'Gill' ends this outstanding album with sublime audio from start to finish. Just that familiar clarity and depth with no intrusion on the perfect playback and no distortion either. Another mention for the depth of the audio here, it is so so impressive. The long fade out has no 'background' either. A Mint finish to a MINT album.
In summary this first pressing is just out of this world! As my regulars know I sell a lot of records from this era but this is unquestionably in my top 3 when it comes to sheer perfect audio quality. It is no exaggeration to say it plays 'as new' on both sides with not so much as a dust tick and it plays like it was pressed only yesterday not 53 years ago! It is therefore not surprising that the vinyl is visually stunning with very little sign of being played. A FINAL UPGRADE time warp classic in every way.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear. The edges have some rubbing but nothing major and the wide has only a small number of white 'rubs' and some light wear on the corners - the right hand corners have barely any wear. The opening edge has light handling wear only. The front cover is super clean with no marking and there is only one thing that lets the back cover down. As you can see there is a name written in pen at the foot (Gerald Durrell bizarrely!) and some scribble next to it. At least it's on the back cover. The inside of the gatefold is in superb order and can correctly be described 'as new'. Overall I think Ex- fair.
The 'Plastic Bags...' poly-lined inner has no side splits or tears, very little age related fading and barely any creasing.
