Description
Very rare ORIGINAL MONO copy of The Doors' 1967 self titled LP released on Elektra EKL-4007.
Upon listening I found this copy has a "censored" mix of "Break On Through To The Other Side" with the omission of the "she gets high" phrase. Seems to me this "uncensored" cut is only on Promo/Radio Station copies. The jam near the conclusion of "The End" does, however, have some pretty audible Morrison profanity in the mix. Do with that information what you will. Sounds fantastic to me.
This is a GENUINE MONO Monarch 1st press. Multiple identifiers are required to certify this release.
Runout information is as follows:
Side A etched; EKL-4007A (MON) MR[in a circle] Δ10046 [Ray Hagerty's signature] Side B etched; EKL-4007B (MON) MR[in a circle] Δ10046-X [Ray Hagerty's signature]
After matching runout information including the "MR" stamp and Ray Hagerty's signature. One last way to verify this press is the incorrect spelling present on the Side One label. The track "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" is actually incorrectly shown as "Break On Through (To The Oher Side)"
Considering the rarity of this record I am grading the LP as a VG but upon listening, much of the record produces higher quality playback than is to be expected by the superficial appearance of the disc. A case of "plays better than it looks". The mono mix is super crisp and brings another level of energy to this album. If you can see past the disc and cover wear this is a fantastic collectors copy of an all time classic LP.
Record: Mostly VG/sometimes VG+ The disc has light hairlines and paper scuffs on both sides. This copy still has a fantastic shine and despite surface marks still retains a very nice luster. None of these marks are particularly deep but there are moments where surface noise and some light crackling can be heard. Most of this can be noticed during the quietest moments of the record. This record sounds great and I thoroughly play tested this copy and still found an enjoyable listening experience despite and superficial flaws. So although this copy has some condition issues, I think the right collector will find this to be a fantastic copy.
Cover: VG
Signs of use and storage. Cover is still fully intact but has visible ringwear, fading, and scuffing. See photos above.
