Description
THE DOORS - " THE DOORS ", Elektra Records (EKS-74007) STEREO, UK Pressing, 1967.
Very rare first English Stereo pressing of classic 1967 debut album by The Doors... this is the extremely rare 1st pressing with the rough textured orange Elektra label.
NOTE: the sleeve and the vinyl on this particular record are technically a mismatch - the vinyl is the very rarest true first UK stereo pressing with the EKS-74007 cat number and "Made in Gt Britain" on the label and most importantly the "EKS-74007 A-1 A (COL) / EKS-74007 B-1 A (COL)" matrix numbers (most copies of this sold as first pressings on ebay actually have later matrices). The sleeve, however, says "Printed in USA", carries both a US address and a UK, London, Dean Street address and lists a cat number of " EKL-4007 (mono)" and is not laminated as per the US sleeves of this era. I actually know the person this LP came from and he swears that this is how he bought it as a "stereo LP" right when it first came out and I have no reason to doubt him. Wether it was a factory mistake or if it got changed inadvertantly in the shop he bought it from I really couldn't say. I will leave it up to potential bidders decide how much this bothers them... or not.
This record has been professionally cleaned on my Moth cleaning machine.
CONDITION:
VINYL = V.G.++ (Plays EX-) (Looks pretty good in normal daylight, but under my bright grading lamp there are some visual inperfections - I can make out a few faint paper-scuff marks, some faint hairline marks and some very light groove damage. However, like so many well pressed 60's LPs, this appears to be a highly resilient record and it's playback defies it's visual condition, playing strongly without interuption by constant surface noise, loud clicks or distortion - whilst my grading is neccesary to cover the visual imperfections, this record plays at least to an EX- standard or better. Not overplayed, even the labels are pretty clean with only the lightest of spindle trails.
When playing this record right through with headphones there is a bit of faint surface noise audible during the silences between tracks, during the silent run-in and occasionally just audible during a couple of quieter intros, but once the music kick in properly it disappears completely - in my mind, these minor imperfections are by no means loud or consistent enough to even come close ruining the listening experience... although it is only fair to point out so that potential bidders can take this into account when placing their max bids. Providing you are prepared to accept that it is a 1967 vinyl record and not a sterile CD then this LP should make a good honest copy for someone who intends to play and enjoy it - those looking for a museum piece or a lifeless CD would probably be happier avoiding this particular LP though.
Note: for the testing/grading of this record, I have played it all the through with headphones and my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable, which is generally quite critical although I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP (or others I have for sale) will sound on your turntable - sorry to be so uptight, but I have met some very silly people on ebay over the years!
SLEEVE = EX- (NO rips, defacing or big creases, etc. That said, I have marked it down for some slight wear to the corners and a couple of very light creases - see photo for further clarification.)
NOTE: It's probably worth pointing out that we are an actual long standing physical shop and soundtrack-specialist mail order firm with literally decades of record trading experience under our collective belts and unlike so many of the jokers and have-a-go heroes that currently clog up ebay, we know how to grade records (often an excellent LP from us will surpass a less reputable seller's so-called mint items). Please don't just go on gradings either, read my descriptions carefully and make a sensible bid accordingly and if you have any queries about an LP I am selling, please get in touch in good time before the end of the auction and I will do my very best to assist. Feel free to check out my feedback for more detailed accounts of our past items sold.
HAPPY BIDDING!
