Description
From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer a superb example of the third studio album by THE DOORS titled “WAITING FOR THE SUN”, Catalogue Number EKS 74024. This is an ORIGINAL 1968 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the ORANGE ELEKTRA RECORD LABEL, with a lovely 1st ISSUE UN-LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE. [The sleeve is the earliest possible design with flipbacks along the top and bottom edges of the opening gatefold. The Elektra record labels are rough-textured. The matrix numbers are the earliest EKS 74024 A1 and EKS 74024 B1].
The sleeve is in EX condition with only very light wear and a few tiny creases near the edges. The internal flipbacks are fully intact and the spine is square and solid with perfect text. There is a name written in blue underneath the catalogue number on the back cover. Overall this is a great sleeve which is very difficult to find in truly excellent condition.
The record is visually in close to EX condition. It’s a fairly solid pressing with a tapered rim edge. It retains a lovely deep shine and sits perfectly flat on the turntable. There are just a few very light sleeve-removal type marks evident under bright light. These are only superficial and do not have any audio significance whatsoever. The rough-textured Elektra labels are unmarked with only a few spindle traces near the centres. Audio playback is excellent throughout. The stereo delivery is very clear and vibrant with wonderful sound quality. Both sides play perfectly with no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. It’s no wonder that these Elektra 1st pressings are so highly sought after. I think that it will be very difficult to find another stereo 1st press copy that plays to such a high standard.
The correct plain white inner sleeve has a few creases but is otherwise in excellent shape.
Overall this is a super 1st pressed copy of The Doors’ classic 3rd album which plays without fault.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.
PACKAGING
LPs are sent out in new cruciform record mailers. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
