Description

Heads up, all northern soul, doo wop, Atlantic-Atco, Drifters and Dionne Warwicke fans on this extremely historical and collectible test pressing of "Mexican Divorce" by The Drifters. The song was written by the writing team of Burt Bacharach & Bob Hilliard, this pairing before the legendary team of Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Due to the storyline, The Drifters are accompanied by female background vocalists on the chorus. Listen closely to the one whose voice is the strongest and sweetest---it was the then unknown Miss Dionne Warwicke, who then was just a session singer. So much of an impression the young Warwicke made at the "Mexican Divorce" session that Bacharach, along with new partner Hal David, used her for other demos as the main vocalists, including the immortal "Make It Easy Yourself," which was given to Jerry Butler; Warwicke was soon to be signed by the team to a history making contract, all thanks to "Mexican Divorce."
