A really fantastic record – equal parts funk, soul and jazz, but at a level that's very different than so many other acts that are exploring similar territory in recent years! There's a depth to the music that grabs you right from the start – a sense of complexity that really shows up in all the phrasing and changes, yet delivered in a way that never fails to groove – almost in the territory of giants like Roy Ayers or Eddie Henderson from back in the day, but with a slightly more contemporary vibe too! The drums are great on all tracks, and feature lots of work from J-Zone – and Stephen Fleg write and arranged most of the set – in a shifting mix of vocal and instrumental tunes that are mighty nice.
The album sales for True Colors will help raise money for the OrchKids program in Baltimore Maryland. All album sales from the first two week will go to the OrchKids program which brings Orchestra ensembles and music classes to Baltimore city schools. These programs are crucial since most music programs have been cut in the past few decades. The OrchKids program is now active in 10 satellite schools which draw from over 40 schools across Baltimore city.
