Description

  THE GRAY THINGS

Charity / Lovers Melody

Laurie 3367 RARE '66 DJ Promo first press. From Albany NY. "Charity" is a great teen garage snappy punker. Appears on Psychedelic Unknowns #5
Short history from an original member: Lee Gray, a local DJ on WTRY persuaded a high school band called The Shandells to change their name to the Gray Things and he could get them a recording session  and possible 45 release. The band drove top NYC, played a song they wrote called "Talkin' New York". The Laurie guys liked the music but not the lyrics and had the band put their lyrics over the music. After recording they went home...heard nothing. Then suddenly one day WTRY starts playing "Charity". It became a regional hit...but...The Royal Guardsmen's "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron" was out at that time (Laurie 3366), and Laurie devoted all the PR and available pressing plants to making that 45. So "Charity" came and went within a couple months. The B side is NOT the Gray Things. It's a throw away instrumental added by the schmucks at Laurie after the Gray Things were allowed one song to record at the NYC studio.

Sleeve Grade: NM- Little to no wear to Laurie sleeve. Small writing near top of one side. No splits.

Vinyl Grade: M- No visible play wear. Both labels and vinyl are near perfect as possible. Nice.
