This is a very special opportunity to buy a very, very RARE
and FANTASTIC and a very nearly MINT copy of a
FOUR LP BOX-SET of
"The Hobbit"
by J.R.R.TOLKIEN,
beautifully read by the actor Nicol Williamson.

This stunning version was released in 1974 on the ARGO label,
(a division of DECCA Records),
It has the Catalogue number ZPL 1196
and is in STEREO.

CONDITION.

BOX    EX++  The box itself is in lovely condition
VINYL ALL FOUR RECORDS ARE  NM+
They all have that static resistance and almost 'crackle' as you pull them out of their sleeves.
BOOKLET EX
This 8 page booklet, is also in excellent condition, which details the story, the work that
went into the recording, a biography regarding Tolkien's life and work and a biography of Nicol Williamson.

I was given this set for my birthday way, way back in 1974 and can vouch that the set has
been played only a handful of times - as I preferred reading the book at the time!
It has been kept in the LP cupboard ever since.

So this collection of records is in as very near MINT condition as you can get,
so it is a great collector's item.

Although the album is mostly spoken word, it is punctuated (well, at least side one is) with ethereal
harp music which gives it at times, an unworldly and quite strange atmosphere.
It is beautifully read by Nicol Williamson (who was a prolific actor who appeared regularly on the stage,
on TV and in cinema in the 60s and 70s) and who has, in my humble opinion, the perfect 'nutty' voice for this particular story.

I have been buying and selling on EBAY for the last 10 years
and have never come across this for sale or auction...
and so I think it is a really rare beast indeed.

All in all, this is a stunning and brilliant album for any Tolkien, HOBBIT and Lord of the Rings collector or fan!

I try to grade records as accurately and as fairly as I can, as I have found that things I have bought on ebay have mostly been described pretty well,  with only one in over a hundred transactions being not quite as described - but near enough for me not to complain!

I grade using the RECORD COLLECTORS' GUIDE system as follows...

MINT (M) -  Sealed and/or obviously unplayed. Perfect condition.

NEAR MINT (NM) -  Vinyl in new condition, record may have been played once or twice.
The cover may have very, very slight wear and/or creasing.

EXCELLENT. (EX) - The record shows evidence of being played with a few light surface marks or scuffs. the cover posssibly has slight general wear.

VERY GOOD (VG) - The record shows signs of being played a lot with a few light scuffs,  scratches and subject to normal wear and tear.

GOOD - Plays reasonably well but has lots of scuffing/scratching that may be distracting. The cover shows lots of wear with creasing,tears and splits.
