The Jaynetts - Sally Go 'Round The Roses - TUFF 13, LP-13 - Released 1963
The Jaynettes were a combination of singers from The Clickettes and The Hearts. Producer Abner Spector put the group into the recording studio for a week. The melody for "Sally Go Round the Roses" was an adaptation of an old English nursery rhyme. The unique arrangement was the brainchild of Artie Butler, who says though he never got paid for his work, the record gave him his very first credit as an arranger. He played and separately recorded all the instrumental tracks himself except for the guitar, adding a different kind of reverb for each instrument. (thanks, Keely - Bronx, NY).
Sally Go 'Round the Roses album:
The single's success led to the release of a Sally Go 'Round the Roses album on Tuff; besides the title cut, in both the vocal and instrumental versions, and the follow-up single "Keep An Eye On Her", the album featured "Archie's Melody", "Bongo Bobby", "I Wanna Know", "No Love At All", "One Track Mind", "Pick Up My Marbles", "School Days" and "See Saw"; also featured as "A Special Guest Appearance" was "Dear Abby" credited to the Hearts, a minor hit (#94) recorded by at least some of the same personnel as "Sally Go 'Round the Roses", and with the same "Sing Along without the..." instrumental-only version on the B-side. Despite the Jaynetts having been promoted as a quintet, their album cover image was of a trio, only two of whom—Ethel Davis and Lezli Valentine—are identifiable. The track "Keep an Eye on Her" was released as the follow-up single to "Sally Go 'Round the Roses", "bubbling under the Hot 100" in November 1963.

M Mint (new or like new) – opened or unopened; nearly perfect; no signs of play, no smudges, scratches or scuffs; collector’s item, play is perfect
NM Near Mint – opened but very clean; minor smudges, scuffs or fine scratches, if any; original inside sleeve; play is excellent
E Excellent – a few more smudges, scuffs or light scratches, noticeable surface noise/pops; play is very good
G Good – even more noticeable flaws and surface noise/pops, may even skip a bit
Cover condition:
M Mint (new or like new) – nearly perfect; shrinkwrap intact to edge (or sealed)
NM Near Mint - opened but very clean; few signs of wear; shrinkwrap intact to edge (will say if not)
E Excellent – minor ring marks, bent corner, scratch marks, shelf-wear, no shrinkwrap, some spine wear
G Good - ring marks, bent corners, split seam, stains possible
Label condition:
M Mint (new or like new) - clean, no scratches or signs of wear, spindle very clean
NM Near Mint – nearly free of any scuffs, label looks like new, spindle may shows only minor signs of wear, if any
E Excellent - has some noticeable wear, scuffs or scratches, spindle used lightly
G Good – more wear and tear
Note:
I try to listen to each record before listing it, however some grading is performed visually. I will be as thorough and accurate as possible, but am not an expert in this field. I inherited this collection from an older gentleman who took pride in his records.
