NOTE: The Jazz Scene, a numbered six-disc set of 12" 78s, assembled by Norman Granz and signed by him.  Issued in an edition of 5,000 on Mercury records in 1949, it has a book-like cover of black-cloth covered boards embossed with gold type.  Package includes over 25 full-page, gorgeous black and white photos by Gjon Mill, a fold-out illustration by David Stone Martin, and biographical notes about each featured artist by Norman Granz.  Featured artists include Duke Ellington, Neil Hefti, (two sides each) Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Ralph Burns, George Handy, Charlie Parker, Willie Smith and Bud Powell (one side each).

Considering this set is almost 70 years old, it is still in nice shape. While most of the records have numerous surface marks, none of them appear to be deep. This will play through nicely. In the 78RPM world, these would likely grade as "excellent". (In the non-78 vinyl world, these would likely grade as VG+).

The book itself has relatively light cover wear. There are a few light scratches, but nothing serious. The right side corners have moderate dings and creases. All but one of the photographs are all still intact. The pages have age wear but are still in good shape, however one page (The Machito page) has significant tearing and the photo of Machito is missing. The damaged page is pictured. A few of the other pages have minor to moderate creasing. The bound record jackets have split seams about 2" to 2 1/2" long. The records still hold in place.

This is signed by Granz himself and is numbered 1180.
