CONDITION: All 6 Records Appear to have been only lightly played; still very shiny with only a few light scuffs from storage: VG++. Cover is intact with minimal wear for being 66 years old (slight stain on front cover but not that noticeable – see photos). Pages and pictures are all intact and in great condition. Minor discoloration on the back of a couple pages of paper not affecting any pictures or text; and some yellowing of the white pages (see photos). 

ISSUED IN 1949 IN A SIGNED EDITION OF 5,000 BY NORMAN GRANZ, IT IS A HARDBOUND-CLOTH COVERED BOOK (12 1/2" X 15") WITH A NOTEBOOK-TYPE BINDING ALLOWING THE OWNER TO REMOVE OR REARRANGE THE CONTENTS. INSIDE THE CLOTH BINDING ARE SIX 12" 78 RPM DISCS, 30 HIGH QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS OF THE JAZZ STARS OF THE DAY (1949) BY NOTED PHOTOGRAPHER GJON MILI (28 loose that can be framed , and 2 pasted on the inside of the covers). My research shows that the one missing picture is of Gene Krupa. EACH LOOSE PHOTOGRAPH IS (11 1/2" X 12 1/2") COULD BE REMOVED (if desired) TO BE FRAMED. NOTE: THE ORIGINAL DAVID STONE MARTIN FOLDOUT DRAWING IS INCLUDED along with the original postcard sized note asking for comments on the album (see photo). ARTISTS ON THE DISCS INCLUDE DUKE ELLINGTON, CHARLIE PARKER, LESTER YOUNG, COLEMAN HAWKINS,  NEIL HEFTI, RALPH BURNS, GEORGE HANDY, WILLIE SMITH, MACHITO AND BUD POWELL. EACH OF THESE IS REPRESENTED WITH A PHOTOGRAPH, AND IN ADDITION THERE ARE PHOTOGRAPHS OF LOUIS ARMSTRONG, ROY ELDRIDGE, ELLA FITZGERALD, GENE KRUPA, TEDDY WILSON, BENNY GOODMAN, STAN KENTON, OSCAR PETTIFORD, MARY LOU WILLIAMS, COUNT BASIE, ART TATUM, SARAH VAUHAN, DIZZY GILLESPIE, BILLIE HOLIDAY AND OTHERS.
