The Jimi Hendrix Experience : Are You Experienced A1 / B1 1st Press 1967 Track Record
This first mono pressing plays to an incredible standard with barely any intrusion. As always I played every track in full and I only noticed a couple of minor ticks and some light static on one intro, this really is a stunning version of this classic album. It has that deep, rich raw sound you only find on mono pressings and it could hardly play any better. The clarity of sound, the depth and resonance of the audio is hugely impressive. Based on the audio, the visual quality of the vinyl and the minimal spindle wear it has clearly not been played very much. They are rarely found as 'clean' as this.
The same applies to the Patents pending E.J. Day cover. It has been preserved so well and the only 'real' wear is on the spine, nothing too much though. It is a stunning example of this iconic cover. This one by the way is laminated on the front but not on the back. The original poly-lined inner sleeve is also in excellent condition - it is dated coded 057 which relates to the May '67 release date.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still retains a strong glossy sheen with no scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint hairlines and a couple of thin thumbnail type marks on the first track but they have no affect on the superb audio, they are purely superficial. Another thin 'line' on S2 but again no impact on the audio. There is no groove or surface wear and the Track Record labels are super clean with only a little spindle wear. There is still some vinyl 'flecking' around the S1 spindle hole!
Play Grading
The sound of Hendrix 'warming up' his guitar at the beginning of 'Foxy Lady' has barely any background and the intro is very similar. The opening vocal section has a couple of minor statics at the start and then plays with great clarity and warmth. It continues in the same way - there is no intrusion on the audio but you do have to turn the volume up to fully immerse yourself in the experience if you'll forgive the pun! It wasn't recorded 'loud' in my opinion. However, from start to finish the audio is very clean and strong and there is no interference. A Near Mint- version of this classic.
The intro on 'Manic Depression' plays to perfection and the first vocal section is just as impressive. This does play with greater power and definition and sonically it is superb. The mid instrumental a case in point, wow! Hendrix's solo has no distortion on the top end and I cannot overstate just how well this track plays. Mitchell and Redding adding great backing of course and every vocal and instrumental section here plays with supreme quality. The closing instrumental is again out of this world! Mint-
The long intro on 'Red House' plays so clearly with only a couple of minor statics, there are no ticks, clicks or pops. The opening vocal plays with sublime clarity and depth and this standard is kept up as it progresses. The solo passage has 2/3 background statics but again they are not intrusive. The final vocal is flawless and overall Near Mint- is deserved again.
'Can You See Me' plays with genuine quality and... no interference. It is powerful but that deep, rich mono sound is very much in evidence and there is no interference. Redding's bass really is so deep and resonant here. Mint-
The intro on 'Love Or Confusion' has no background and the opening vocal is very clean with barely any static. From then on it plays loud and true with no distortion. Perhaps not quite as clean as the preceding but only fractionally below and only during this section really because the mid instrumental is absolutely stunning, 'as new' sums it up. The next vocal is so close to that as is the closing instrumental - what a finish! Near Mint
The intro on 'I Don't Live Today' is faultless as is the opening vocal. Already I can't help but notice just how 'clean' this is for a final track. Another powerful number and yet there is no distortion on the top end - just listen to the first chorus if you win this. The mid instrumental is equally as impressive and the next chorus has no intrusion either. As it descends into silence there is literally no background and the frenetic end section plays with stunning quality right through to the final note. Just a hint of mega quiet static at the start of the final vocal but overall this fade out / in / out end section is STUNNING. I'll grade this classic as Near Mint
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'May This Be Love' has only a little background static and then the opening vocal section plays very clearly with barely any background. Remember this vinyl is 58 years old and so far the clarity of sound is stunning. For example the first 'pause' here is totally silent and the next vocal passage is flawless. It continues to impress - every note is so crisp and sharply defined. A handful of insignificant light statics during the final solo but so quiet and scarcely worth a mention. I will grade the intro as Ex but from then on it has to grade as Near Mint
'Fire' plays with great power and definition from the intro and then onwards. Mitchell is very high in the mix during many sections and the percussive sound is superb. No interference just a small number of barely audible statics again. Near Mint
The intro on '3rd Stone From The Sun' plays so well - you can hear every subtle sound in the music. There's a lot 'going on' during this opening sequence and yet you miss nothing. Very clean and precise audio. The first 'vocal' section has no background and it continues in the same manner. Obviously the most psychedelic track on the album and the classic instrumental sections plays exceptionally well. Driven by Redding's bass line the sonic quality is almost mesmerising! Every section is stunning and the next 'spoken' vocal has no intrusion either. Best played in a dark room with the lights off in my opinion! Hendrix lacing the track with his usual magic and Mitchell also adding to the quality with an almost frenetic prowess. Just some minor statics right at the end but... not intrusive of course. I'm tempted to say Mint- but perhaps Near Mint is a better representation of this all time classic.
'Remember' plays with genuine quality through every vocal and instrumental section. There is just one light tick as you approach the middle section, not a click! Aside from that it plays so clearly and overall Near Mint is deserved.
The unmistakeable intro on 'Are You Experienced' plays with immense quality and the opening vocal the same. The depth and warmth of the audio is so impressive for a final track and this high end quality is prevalent throughout. So often final tracks on 60s mono records can be unplayable but the sonic quality here is astonishing. The mid solo is a prime example - there is literally no distortion, no background whatsoever. As it climbs out of this section the audio is superb and the closing section is unbelievably good! It is so powerful, full of depth and just such a clean deep sound. The relatively long fade out is flawless and of course it ends quite abruptly with... zero intrusion. A STUNNING finale which has to grade as Mint- it truly is a fantastic version. One for the purists!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The Patent pending E.J. Day cover is in superb condition and is easily one of the best I have seen. The edges are pristine and whilst the spine is a little compressed you can still make out most of the text and cat number. It's the spine that actually has the most wear but even then it's not extreme. All four corners are in great shape with very little wear and the opening edge is also very clean with only minimal handling wear. The laminated front cover is unmarked and has only a small number of laminate creases around the edges and the non-laminated back cover is stunning! So often it is found heavily marked but not here! It is so clean with only a couple of specks and there is nothing that stands out. A hint of ringwear that is all. A stunning example for sure.
The original poly-lined inner sleeve has been preserved so well and has no side splits or tears. It has very little age related fading around the edges and the only 'marking' is where the 'glue' is showing through in some areas. The top two corners have only minimal wear also but a fine example overall.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
