Description
THE JONSTON McPHILBRY 'SHE'S GONE / WOKE UP AT EIGHT' on the original FONTANA RECORDS TF 663 from 1966.
A great record! Very classic 60's sound and attitude that will fly you back in time, to hanging armchairs, paisley, mini-skirts, crew-necks and the Playboy Club in swingin' London. A skat vocal style here, with wonderful
backing harmonies - this is a sort of 'lost classic' Mod period piece.
I imagine the references to the singer's friend 'Little Joe'
might be influenced by tv's 'Bonanza', and the credits include none other than Quincy Jones - a prolific songwriting/composing genius, and co-writer 'King Pleasure' (??)
This 45 is a cool r'n b beat tune that should have done better, but was overlooked in favour of the poppier material issued at the time.
It's hard to find a more 'swingin' groove though.
This comes from a great era in British beat music, and is a very rare collectible gem!
The vinyl is in nice VG++/NM- condition.
Winner please add post/packing £2.50 UK, £3.50 EU, £5. Worldwide.
