This listing is for:
THE KINKS
SOMETHING ELSE
.
REPRISE Records RS 6279
Vintage issue (1970s) Stereo LP
VINYL is NM
Unplayed - was SEALED until Photos. (Since I opened it I cannot grade any higher than NEAR MINT, though the vinyl is flawless.)
.
COVER is NM-
Still in the complete, just opened, clean factory Shrink Wrap; crisp and tight with no creases, drill hole, grommet or cut corner. Not absolutely pure NM due to tiny nick at center of opening edge. No other marks. Edges straight, corners sharp. Seams and spine 100% intact with no splits.
*Was SEALED until listing (as seen in Photos); opened only to confirm pressing, vintage, matrix #s and labels.
...Unopened it looks EXACTLY like the 1967 press, with the soft silver-grey cover background and combined brown (for encircled portraits) and black (for surrounding art nouveau filigree graphics). Sharp, opaque muted grass-colored green / pale white for main titles. Had to be opened to be certain of pressing.
This is a WINCHESTER pressing with their iconic 'rifle' glyph in dead wax. Brown Steamboat labels w/Orange/red Reprise logo at top; Mid 1970's vintage.
WARNER/REPRISE LOSS LEADERS INNER SLEEVE text at bottom right corner states "© 1972–Warner Bros. Records Inc."
"REPRISE RECORDS, A DIVISION OF WARNER BROS.-SEVEN ARTS RECORDS, INC." at bottom of back cover.
STRICT CONSERVATIVE GOLDMINE GRADING
NM / EX(VG++) / VG+ / VG
This album, released in 1967, is the deepest glory of "THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE KINKS"
that roughly begins with 1965's "See My Friends" and continues through the LP that precedes SOMETHING ELSE: "Face to Face"
and of course the album that follows: "Village Green Preservation Society" and on into "Arthur" - and a bit beyond.
For many, Village Green was the apex; but for all its beauty, it comes a close second for many of us long-time KINKS KOLLECTORS to the wondrously atmospheric, deeply British and eclectically nostalgic genius from Mr. Raymond Douglas Davies found here on SOMETHING ELSE. From such celebrated classics as "Waterloo Sunset", "David Watts" and (Dave Davies triumph) "Death of a Clown", to the eccentric, but utterly brilliant tracks "Lazy Old Sun", Afternoon Tea", "End of The Season", "Situation Vacant", Two Sisters" with its scintillatingly baroque harpsichord, and 2 more DAVE DAVIES stunners: "Funny Face" and the amazing "Love Me Til The Sun Shines".
This is an album that grows and grows on you until it becomes one of the absolute desert island top ten albums of all time.
ESSENTIAL for any respectable KINKS Collection.

Beginning to unfold an utterly vast melded record collection, ferreting out the duplicates and passing them on.
My life-long best friend, who was a DJ at the Radio Station I co-founded in the 1970's - and who worked for me at my California record store in the '70s and '80s - has now finally left this mortal coil, bequeathing me his deep Vinyl Mine. Several thousand records (mostly LP's, but also hundreds of 45's), several hundred collectible and Rare, Out of Print CDs and Box Sets, plus posters and other memorabilia - most of which will all become available as I move through the collection.
.
Always collecting everything he could - with strong tastes in rare Psych, worldwide Prog, Electronic, Space Rock, Classic '60s Rock, innovative Hard Rock, UK Blues Rock, Glam, Odd sounds, all things Tolkien and Disney, Hawaiian Slack Key and more - and of course, both our faves: THE KINKS and SMALL FACES.
.
We had very similar tastes - so numerous prime duplicates will be listed. Many PROMOS, IMPORTS and 1st PRESSINGS will be included - indeed some still sealed.
.
after thousands of miles, many days spent gathering it all and several thousand dollars spent flying out to California and trucking it all back to my new home, the tip of the iceberg now emerges
a few choice pieces off the top, listed at set price to recoup some expenses now.
I'm not yet near ready for the full-scale auctions that are planned to begin soon
.
Following soon, I will begin listing the LP's first, mostly at auction, with low opening bids - starting with the Prog, Electronic and Space Rock, then the Psych and on from there. You WON'T want to miss those!! (it may take me several weeks (months?) to list them all... still only part-way through all the LP boxes - checking Pressing, Edition and condition (most so far are VG++ to NM). It's all coming soon... .
.
Following the LP's will be either the CDs or the 45's next - and then ultimately the posters and other paper.
Truly a great (and enormous) collection!
.
...so many boxes, the process continues. It may be a while until I can organize
my 1st auction series of at least 100 LP auctions at one time,
but mark/save this listing/eBay ID and check back.
Diligent collectors WILL be rewarded!
