Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only light, mainly fine and faint spindle marks. A very fine looking example that appears only gently played.

Brief Info: The fourth and final Move album, regarded by many as their finest, however, drummer Bev Bevan did not agree, he preferred all the previous three. Featuring the intrument talents of Roy Wood, this album was recorded as the band were actually being changed to the Electric Light Orchestra. There are inevitable sound similarities in this and the first ELO album that also was issued on Harvest. A fine album and copy, it cleverly moved their sound on to the new band and was an excellent way for The Move to move on.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: or very close to. A single, unlaminated format that has a delicate textured front. The smooth back has three huge flipbacks, unlaminated covers do not often have these. Made with soft thin card, printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Includes the Harvest promotional inner sleeve.

Cover Front: Very flimsy and delicate and prone to just about all forms of wear. A lovely colourful front that remains very attractive and mainly clean as well. Any grubbiness, mainly on the right handling area edge, is gentle and light. Any creasing the same and very few at all. A huge plus factor is the colour, it retains deep vibrant ink without the fading many seem to acquire. Such covers are highly sensitive to UV and many are seen bleached or faded. Most of any rubbing on the bottom right leading edge corner tip, and traces there and there on the very edge of the edges. The lack of rubbing and ringwear to the finely textured surface is unusual, but most welcome of course. Also no sticker marks or tears for which this, and similar types are so intolerant. A front that will prove difficult to find much better.

Cover Back: By 1971 external flipbacks were largely a thing of the past and lovely to see three impressive and hardly worn ones. The odd gentle crease on each and a trace of discolouration, but no lifting or end burring. The main back panel again has some mildish handling grubbiness to the left edge area with any elsewhere being little and very light indeed. A little tip rubbing is so hard to avoid on such covers, but this back is still very fine and complements the impressive front perfectly.

Top Edge: Very thin and delicate, but straight with only a little patchy, mainly light rubbing.

Bottom Edge: As above but with hardly any rubbing, this unusual for what most consider to be the storage edge. A tiny nick repair to the edge of the right corner was made by myself to stop the risk of it widening in the future. It shows little as a smallish rub.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, reasonably sharp with little wear. Any thickening or burring gentle and light as seen viewed end-on. Record enters on this edge and is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with minimal traces of compression, the ends are quite deeply pinched in manufacture. All text is present and unworn, also well centred for good measure.

Corners: Light and moderate tip rubbing on the right pair, the spine ones have very little. Fine to very fine shape retained.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this very fragile early 1970’s cover, one that could prove very difficult to find much better. It does remain generally clean and attractive with far more positives than negatives, it will please many collectors, but not the perfectionists.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: but looks way better, only marked down for the loss of the original lining which is a more than common trait of these Harvest promotional inners. The owner replaced it with an ultra soft Japanese anti-static replacement, which is a very sound move. The actual paper itself is impressive with only gentle traces of the usual seam adhesive darkening. Barely creased or worn, all edges are unsplit with no repairs. For pure good looks, this inner is very impressive.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: being fairly critical. A very fine visual copy that is clean with fine shine and solidly pressed. Any surface marks are very fine and faint as seen under bright angled light, there are no penetrating stylus scratches and this plays impressively. A lovely record that many collectors will enjoy.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quite scarce Harvest record plays even above its high visual grading with very little to fault. Strong distortion free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and a very clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I feel very sure this record has been played only lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this quality early-pressed record. It could prove difficult to find significantly better and merits strong recommendation.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Blue moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
