Darbyncoates is pleased to offer a great rarity in Classical music recordings, The Music of Charles Ives / Volume One, on Polymusic Records Label PRLP 1001.

From Wikipedia, here is some background information on the wonderfully creative Charles Ives:

"Charles Edward Ives ( October 20, 1874 – May 19, 1954) was an American modernist composer. He is one of the first American composers of international renown, though his music was largely ignored during his life, and many of his works went unperformed for many years. Over time, he came to be regarded as an "American original". Ives combined the American popular and church-music traditions of his youth with European art music, and was among the first composers to engage in a systematic program of experimental music, with musical techniques including polytonality, polyrhythm, tone clusters, aleatoric elements, and quarter tones, foreshadowing many musical innovations of the 20th century."

THE VINYL : VG+ : The LP is 180 grams & has been well-cared for over these decades. It is has glossy black lustre with a few light marks. It is an older mono recording from 1951, & is certainly not up to the standards of modern audiophile pressings. I had to hear this rarity, & it does play with light clicks & an occassional pop. The musicians (listed on the front cover- see photo) are talented & faithful to Ives, giving this LP a special place in the history of American compositions and recordings.

THE COVER : VG+ : Made of a heavy cardboard stock. Present is some age-related yellowing, more evident on the (white) back cover, & some edgewear. All of the seams are intact. There is a sticker on the cover that extends to the back cover with typed information (see back cover photo). Minor paper loss in the bottom right on the back cover. No rips, tears or other writing.

Please examine the photos for tracklist information. Of particular note is "Hallowe'en" & "Central Park in the Dark Some Forty Years Ago."
