A longstanding and leading studio musician, saxophonist & composer Nick Ayoub was always one of Quebec's best-kept jazz secrets, playing behind giants like Maynard Ferguson, Johnny Holmes and Duke Ellington. Over a career that's spanned 5 decades, he's also backed a veritable who's-who of artists......both at live gigs and in the studio.....appearing on dozens of recordings (he's featured on the great "Ready Or Not" Canadian Jazz compilations).
But he's recorded less than a handful of self-credited "solo" albums........his two 60's standouts, the coveted "The Montreal Scene" on RCA and "Bossa Nova" on Trans-Canada, as well as this 70's jewel ("The Music of Nick Ayoub") on Radio Canada's superb Transcription series of vinyl releases.
This is awesome deep and exotic jazz (released only in Canada)...........funky modal grooves interspersed with more contemplative, searching jazz gems.
A rare and great album ! .....never reissued on CD
