THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN
UK 1967 1st PRESS BLUE/BLACK COLUMBIA Mono SX 6157
Early Mother/Stamper codes 1-M & 1-A
A nice very rare early original UK Mono copy that looks and plays mostly excellent apart from a few areas with tics and crackle and one short skip caused by a small fuzzy mark right at the start of the brilliant long instrumental track 'Interstellar Overdrive'.
Vinyl = MOSTLY PLAYS NEAR EXCELLENT BUT GRADES G+++
Both sides of the vinyl are mainly very clean and glossy apart from a couple of light scuffs and also a couple ( 3 0r 4) of mild scratches on side 1, side two looks very good+/EX with just a few light scuffs and hairlines but no real scratches, both sides play and sound pretty near excellent condition apart from the odd light click and crackle in places, the track ''POW R.TOC H.'' plays with some continuous background clicks due to a couple of mild scratches, right at the start of the amazing long instrumental 'Interstellar Overdrive' there is one short skip caused by a very small fuzzy looking mark on the vinyl, this album still looks in very good+ condition with plenty of original gloss with not many marks at all, nearly all tracks play without any problem with excellent sound quality but the vinyl can only grade as good condition because of the sporadic playing defects, i am pretty sure that most would grade this very good and that the winning bidder will be pleasantly surprised how clean this rare album actually is.
Blue/Black STEREO LABELS = EX
Both blue/black MONO Columbia labels are in excellent condition, there is some mild wear around the spindle holes, the label of side has the embossed KT stamp.
E.J.Day Tri-Flipback sleeve. VG
The E.Jay.Day front laminated single sleeve is in very good condition, the top edge has some tiny worn areas and a small seem split but the spine and bottom edge are excellent, the front lamination is still very glossy with a few very small lamination shifts and just a few creases, the grey matt rear sleeve has some minor age discolouration as nearly all original copies do, there is also a tiny area of blue ink in the letter ''E'' of the word ''PIPER'' top left (this can be clearly seen in the picture provided). The flipbacks have a few light creases and cracks but are still pretty clean and strong, the top flipback does not carry the text ''FILE UNDER POPULAR :POP GROUPS'' so this is one of the more desirable earliest original UK MONO pressings.
Original EMI Advertising inner = G
The albums original grey/white EMI advertising inner sleeve has some large seem splits so the vinyl will be sent to the winning bidder in a as new poly-lined inner sleeve, the original EMI inner will still be included.
All in all this is a pretty decent original UK MONO copy of THE PINK FLOYD'S essential debut psych rock album. there is some surface noise/clicks in some areas and one quick skip but as i have stated the vinyl actually looks near excellent condition.
