AMG REVIEW: The Real People were Brit-pop before the genre had a name. Of course there was nothing new about Brit-pop -- it was merely a rehash of British Invasion sounds from the '60s, albeit a fun one. And that aptly describes the Real People's eponymous 1991 debut album. Some of it is reminiscent of Oasis, especially the big guitars and the soaring harmonies. Since this full-length predates Oasis, it becomes obvious what other English group besides the Beatles they pilfered from. Then again, the Real People aren't completely original themselves: the Stone Roses' influential brew of psychedelic rock, '70s funk, and late-'80s dance music appears now and then, most notably on the catchy "Window Pane" and "Open up Your Mind." "Window Pane" tried to woo modern rock radio listeners in the early '90s, but even its hypnotic riffs couldn't sway them from the sonic sludge of Nirvana. The album is a fine antidote to Seattle angst; the band seems like they're having a good time. However, it's a tad faceless; there's nothing much to distinguish the Real People from their peers. Stephen Street produced "Window Pane," "The Truth," and "Another Day," and the guitars are as crisp as Johnny Marr's on the Smiths' records that Street worked on. The Real People try really hard to make their songs hummable and memorable, but their songwriting hasn't caught up with their top-flight musicianship yet.

CONDITION: The record is in near mint condition & the cover is excellent with very slight wear on the very tips of the corners & some slight edgewear.

LP SHIPPING + PACKING & VARIOUS INFO:
I use real coated cardboard LP mailers when I ship vinyl & these are very durable. I usually take the records with the inner sleeves out of the covers (unless factory sealed of course) so they don't split the seams of the cover in shipment. Then I put them in a 2 or 3 mil plastic sleeve & then wrap a plastic bag or two around them to keep them from flopping around in the mailer, this method seems to work best since it adds air & almost works like bubble wrap (keeps the LP's usually under a pound & saves a lot on shipping rates worldwide compared to using cardboard inserts), breakage rate has been way less than 1 in 1000 using this method, if I added cardboard it also would make the weight of it more prone to the corners getting dented in transit if dropped. 10" records & 12" singles count as 1 LP for shipping, single laserdiscs count as 2 LP's for shipping (& I pack 2+ records differently & I have oversized boxes for larger packages...don't worry I've been sending out stuff about 5 days a week for over 20 years now & know exactly what I'm doing over here). I also add plain white inner sleeves so custom innersleeves don't get spit in shipping also (if either company or specialty sleeves came with the record).

All records are BLACK VINYL unless noted & inserts/gatefold covers/posters/custom inner sleeves will be noted in the description if they are included plus promo & cutout marks stated if they are there also. I don't believe in hiding stuff & try to note most everything that should matter to buyers. All 12" vinyl on ebay is automatically listed as 33 1/3 rpm & 7" vinyl as 45 rpm (to save time on listing all this stuff) if you need to confirm speed on a specific item please ask & I can go check.

I tend to run a lot of the same bands/type of music at the same time. Most cleared payments go out within 24 hours. I'm working by myself here so you are only communicating with me & not a bunch of people & I'm at my computer several times a day & rarely miss a day checking emails. So expect quality hands on service. Everything you see on auction & in my store is (physically) here with me (& no middleman shipping ever!).
Most my items I list go on auction first & then if they don't sell to my store within a few days after the auction ends (for usually more than my minimum bid so watch my auctions to get the best prices on most of the items).
