MEGA-MEGA rare debut album by The Rods, one of the most underrated hard rock/heavy metal acts of the 1980s. Guitarist/vocalist David "Rock" Feinstein was Ronnie James Dio's cousin and played with him in Elf. (In fact, the first track on this album, "Sit Down Honey" is a cover of an Elf song that Feinstein wrote. 'Rock Hard' is an album that gives any other band in the genre at the time a run for their money becase these boys were explosive. This record on the private label company Primal was a limited pressing of only 1,000 copies. Arista was so impressed that they re-released most of it (excepting "Sit Down Honey," "In Your Panties," "Gettin Higher," and "You Better Run") as The Rods self-titled album in 1981. At the time of Rock Hard, The Rods were still just a local band recording in Fredonia and Ithaca NY, mixed in Rochester and Buffalo, but rightly mastered at The Power Plant in New York City.

If you look at the Primal Record Co. address at the bottom of the rear cover, you'll see an address of 1010 North Main St., Elmira, NY. I live in Elmira and I can tell you that address is a small residential house, and it's nearly impossible to believe that any kind of record company could have existed there. (Do a Google image search, and you'll see what I mean.)

I guess by now you're saying "enough of the back-story, what's the condition?" I have to call the cover only VG (3.5" seam split bottom middle, some face wear, piece of yellow cloth tape left edge near bottom, red dot sticker upper left, price sticker remnant upper right); VINYL = VG+/EXCELLENT (visually, some light marks) but I play-tested the album completely, sounded great with no incidents except some surface noise at the outer-most groove on either side. Now you could have a Near Mint copy on Discogs for $259-$450, but if you want a great sounding record for a helluva lot less, this is the one.
