The Rolling Stones : Between The Buttons 6K / 6K Boxed Blue Decca

This stereo pressing on the boxed Decca label plays to a wonderful standard with hardly any intrusion on the audio.  In fact there are only a couple of light clicks on S2, the clarity is very impressive.  Not surprising in a way because the vinyl is in superb condition with no marking.

The cover is in excellent condition with only a little wear on the back cover which is commonly seen.  The original stereo inner is also in great condition.

Visual grading

This may not be one of the earliest pressings but it is nonetheless in lovely condition with no marking or scratches.  It still has a super clean glossy sheen and all I can detect under a strong light are a handful of very faint sleeve removal hairlines.  There is very little spindle wear so this and the audio quality leads me to believe it has only been lightly played down the years.  The run out grooves and labels are also very clean with no markings.

Play grading  

Having played S1 in full I can confidently say it plays with superb quality throughout.  The clarity on the first track 'Yesterday's Papers' is so impressive and it has no clicks or pops and no obvious static.  This is a Near Mint start to the album and I am pleased to say this standard is pretty much maintained on every track.

There is one light tick on 'My Obsession' but apart from that it plays to near perfection.

The often underrated 'Back Street Girl' has only light static on the intro and then plays beautifully for such a quiet track and again there are no clicks or pops.  With only a handful of dust ticks this is a stunning version.

'Connection' is flawless from start to finish with not one iota of interference.  Mint- for sure.

Again the clarity and depth on 'She Smiled Sweetly' is so good and there is no intrusion on the audio.  There is just a minor amount of static in a couple of places but it is so quiet and totally non-intrusive.  Near Mint-

'Cool, Calm & Collected' plays with very strong and clear audio considering it is the final track on the side.  There is a little inner groove distortion on the vocal but this is common and there are no clicks or pops and deserves an Ex+ grade.

'All Sold Out' has only a couple of seconds of light static on the intro and then plays with excellent audio for the remainder.  There is one light click half way through (the first on the album!) but has no other intrusion.  Ex+ overall.

'Please Go Home' plays with great clarity from start to finish and no interference at all.  This really is an exceptional version and even Near Mint may be an injustice!

'Who's Been Sleeping Here' has a couple of brief crackles on the intro and then plays so well with only light click.  Ex+ again although the vast majority is better than that :-)

'Complicated' has only a couple of minor ticks on the intro and then plays with stunning clarity and definition.  You could not find a better version, the playback is and Mint- is easily deserved.

'Miss Amanda Jones' is of course a 'louder' track and yet the audio is very strong with only minimal distortion.  My ears may have been deceiving me but there did seem to be 3/4 seconds near the end where there was a little more distortion.  This is quite difficult to grade so will say Ex+ to be cautious.

The super quiet intro on 'Something Happened To Me Yesterday' has no 'background' and continues in much the same way.  This is actually a superb version and there is no interference apart from minimal inner groove distortion which you expect to find anyway.  There are no clicks or pops, no crackle and barely any static.  An Ex+ finish to the album. 

In summary this stereo pressing plays to an excellent standard with only two light clicks, not bad really for a vinyl of this age!  The sonic quality is very impressive and there is also hardly any inner groove distortion which is a rarity.  As always I have play tested every second and it is a very enjoyable listen for sure.  A fine example overall.

The Cover

This cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear.  The top edge has one very small split but it isn't at all obvious.  Apart from that it has only a couple of very minor rubs.  The bottom edge is super clean with no marking at all and the thin pinched spine has no wear either - very rare!  All four corners are extremely clean with no obvious wear and the opening edge again has only minimal wear.  The front cover has only some minor indents and a couple of minor creases - all this you can only see when you hold the cover at a certain angle, it is in excellent condition.  Considering the back cover is so white it has stayed very clean with only a small number of faint marks and a couple of creases.  A very respectable cover.

The Inner Sleeve

The original poly-lined blue stereo inner is in superb condition for its age.  It has no side splits or tears, barely any creasing and only the bare minimum of age related fading around the edges.

The Labels

The blue boxed labels are in great condition with very little spindle wear and no marking or writing.  The JT tax stamp can clearly be seen on both run out grooves.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
