The Rolling Stones : Goat's Head Soup A2/B1 1st Press with both inserts

This first pressing plays to an excellent standard with just a little static here and there.  One track on S1 does have three static clicks but they are the only ones across the entire album.

The cover is by far the most impressive I have ever seen and for once both inserts are included and they are also in fantastic condition.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in beautiful condition with an immaculate glossy sheen.  There are no marks or scratches and only a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines which are not easy to find.  S1 has only one small hairline that is a little more obvious to the eye.  The run out grooves are pristine and the yellow labels have no marking and only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

'Dancing With Mr. D.' plays with wonderful clarity from the get go and continues with not one single click or pop.  This is as close to a perfect rendition as is possible with only a touch of barely audible static here and there and most would not even mention it as you hardly notice it!  A Near Mint start but a conservative grade for sure.

The intro on '100 Years Ago' has only one light tick and then plays very clearly.  There are three static clicks after a minute or so but they are not loud and thereafter the audio cannot be faulted.  The 'high octane' end section plays with stunning power and clarity.  I would say Ex+ is a fair grade overall.

The piano intro on 'Coming Down Again' plays beautifully with barely any static and the first vocal is just as good.  From that point on there are no clicks or pops and only a minimal amount of very light background that is in no way intrusive.  I couldn't quite decide between Near Mint- and Ex+ so will go for the latter just to be cautious.

'Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)' plays with great power and definition and no interference.  No more needs to be said and is Near Mint without a doubt.

The acoustic intro on 'Angie' has only a hint of background static but is again so quiet.  The first vocal/chorus is nigh on perfect and it proceeds in much the same way.  The clarity is very impressive for a final and there is no intrusion on the audio.  Near Mint is deserved here.

'Silver Train' on S2 plays with very strong audio and with only a some light static in the background here and there.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops and Ex+ is about right.

The piano intro on 'Hide Your Love' has only very minimal static and thereafter plays very well but yes with a little background static.  In a way it's odd there is some static on this record as visually it is pristine!  Ex

'Winter' is a definite improvement and plays with very clean audio all the way through.  There is only the lightest of static and the clarity can hardly hardly be faulted.  Near Mint-

'Can You Hear The Music' has a very clean intro and then plays with no clicks or pops and only a little ubiquitous static in the quieter sections.  Ex+

'Star Star' ends the album with very strong audio and there is hardly any 'background'.  With only minimal inner groove distortion this is an excellent version and Ex+ is deserved.

In summary this first pressing plays to an excellent standard but yes there is a little static here and there although nothing particularly intrusive.  The actual vinyl is in superb condition and the gatefold and inserts are in superb condition as described below.

The Gatefold & Inserts

The cover is in fantastic condition and is easily the best I have seen in many a year.  No faults really!  The edges have barely any rubbing and the wide spine is perfectly clean.  The corners are also close to perfect with just one tiny crease top right.  The opening edge looks hardly touched and the front cover is immaculate!  The same applies to the back cover and the inside.  It is also still very strong and robust like it has hardly ever been handled.  A STUNNING example!

Both inserts are also in perfect Mint condition with no wear at all.  Never seen better!
