Description
Back in the early 70s Decca Records released a series of records. No Stone Unturned is a compilation album released in 1973. It reached #56 on the British chart. Eight of the twelve tracks had been previously released on single b-sides in the United Kingdom, and the rest had been released on EPs.
The song "Sad Day" was released as a single from the album. Neither the album or the single "Sad Day" were released with consent from the band, who had lost control over their pre-1971 catalog when they terminated their contract with Decca Records. Decca would continue to release such unauthorized albums over the next several decades. The album was one of the "post-contract" albums released by Decca following the end of their relationship with the Stones in 1971. Because of the nature of the contract, the band lost all control over their recordings prior to 1971, which are held jointly by Decca and ABKCO records. Both Decca and ABKCO would continue to release compilations over the next several decades.
