The Rolling Stones No. 2 1A / 2A
This highly sought after first pressing plays with great clarity and is easily the most stunning version I have ever seen. It is a classic example of a vinyl hardly played and has been beautifully well preserved.
It has the infamous 'blind man' text on the back cover and being a first press has only 'Made In England' printed on the top of the label. Later pressings had 'Made In England. The Decca Record Co. Ltd'.
The 1A/2A first pressings on the unboxed grooved red Decca label are rarely found in this condition. The vinyl is so incredibly clean and the cover is also in superb condition.

Visual grading
This vinyl is in superb condition and looks hardly played. It has one of the most impressive glossy sheens that I have ever seen on a record from the mid 60s and there is very little spindle wear. There are a couple of very small faint marks on S1 but they have no affect on the audio and only 2/3 faint hairlines. S2 is in superb order with no obvious hairlines and there are obviously no scratches on either side. The run out grooves are also in superlative condition as are the labels. This is a fantastic example of this very collectable record.
Play grading
'Everybody Needs Somebody To Love' plays very clearly with no clicks or pops and only a little light static in the background here and there. It is not intrusive and the warmth and depth of the mono recording is what really stands out. An Ex grading is fair although many sections do play better than that. The fade out is nigh on perfect.
'Down Home Girl' is of a very similar standard with some light intermittent static. I am very honest in my gradings and will always write what I hear and that is sometimes to my detriment as I do sit very close to the speakers. I will often mention something that is not obvious to many! So believe me the static here does not intrude on the listen and for a 54 year old record it still plays with excellent clarity.
'You Can't Catch Me' plays with stunning quality from start to finish with no interference at all. The 'sound' is very different here and was clearly recorded in a different studio to the first two tracks. There is more depth and a stronger bass sound and is Near Mint and the fade out could not be any 'cleaner' - providing another example of the superb clarity.
The quiet intro on 'Time Is On My Side' is so impressive and has only a hint of minor static after 10 seconds. As the vocal begins the playback is so 'clean' and this clarity of sound is prevalent to the end. There are a small number of light static ticks which are totally non-intrusive. This is worthy of a Near Mint- grading.
'What A Shame' has barely any static on the intro and provides such a 'clean' start. It then plays with great clarity and definition and only a small number of light background ticks but again this not intrusive. There are no clicks, pops or crackle and the vast majority of this Jagger/Richards composition plays with wonderful quality and the instrumental end section is a case in point. The depth of the audio here is fantastic!
'Grown Up Wrong', the second J/R track ends the side with stunning audio and no inner groove distortion which is such a rarity for this final track. With only a couple of dust ticks there is no intrusive 'background' and the fade out is superb! This is Near Mint and I must stress how 'clean' this track is, the playback cannot be faulted, wow!

'Down The Road Apiece' has a depth and sonic quality that is stunning. Yes a minimal hint of mega light static on the intro and a couple of ticks but the clarity of sound is sensational and especially so on the instrumental section. It plays so well, incredible to think this record is 54 years of age! Because the record has been so well looked after and hardly played there is no groove wear and no loss of definition i.e. each note played with perfect precision. Near Mint- I would say.
The intro on the classic 'Under The Boardwalk' has no interference and continues to play with the same depth and warmth. This is another 'high end' track and there are only a very small number of light static sounds and not a single click or pop.
'I Can't Be Satisfied' plays with remarkable precision from the very first groove. In the instrumental mid section there is one click (the first on the record!) but the remainder plays very clearly with only a minor amount of insignificant static. I am happy to grade this as Ex+ as the one click is the only intrusion really.
'Pain In My Heart' has no clicks or pops but there is some static here and there which is a little more obvious in a couple of places. Ex- overall.
The final Jagger/Richards track 'Off The Hook' plays with impressive quality from the get go. With hardly any static on the intro the track plays with real clarity and precision, just one faint tick near the end.
'Suzie-Q' ends the album in fine style with no interference and only a minimal amount of inner groove distortion. The 'handclap' fade out plays perfectly!
In summary this first press plays with great depth and clarity and with only the one light click! It's not often you can say that about a record of this advanced age! There is minimal static, just a little more on S2 track 4 but certainly not excessive. This is also one of the 'cleanest' versions of this classic that you are ever likely to see. It has hardly been played and has no scratches, it has been so well preserved down the decades. The cover is also in lovely condition with no obvious marking which is a rarity.
The Cover
The 'Clarifoil' cover printed by 'James Upton Ltd' is in lovely condition with barely any of the marking that you so often see on the back cover. The edges and spine are in fantastic condition with no shelf wear and there is only very minor corner wear. The opening edge has hardly any handling wear, nothing of any note! The front cover is very clean and has only a handful of laminate crease near the lower right side. As stated the back cover is super clean with only a couple of very faint marks and also 32/- written near the top - I think that might have something to do with the original price in old money?! There is no staining and the top and bottom flipback remain firmly attached with no real marking. A very impressive cover to say the least.
Inner Sleeve
The original poly-lined sleeve has no splits or tears, just some creasing and a couple of faint marks.
The Labels
The grooved red labels look superb and have lost none of their original deep colour. They have no marking or writing and very little spindle wear. Very clean examples of a vinyl rarely played.
