The Rolling Stones : Rolled Gold 1W/1W/1W/2W 1st Press

I purchased a collection recently among which were a stunning set Stones' records.  I have listed a number of them already and have graded each track individually.  However, such is their quality there is no real need for this but rest assured I will still listen to every track in full so as to provide a 'correct' grading and will state any imperfections even if minor.

This first pressing of Rolled Gold released in '75 is in superb condition.  It is another from the collection that has been so well looked after and the audio plays to a wonderful standard.

Play grading

S1 plays with sublime clarity throughout with no interference of any kind, the playback is stunning.  '19th Nervous Breakdown' on S2 has a very quiet one second static sound at the start and then plays perfectly.  'As Tears Go By' gives a really good example of the clarity on offer here being such a quiet track and plays with impeccable quality.  The same applies to the classic 'Lady Jane' which is Mint from start to finish.  The remainder of the side is of the same standard.

S3 plays with great clarity and again not a single click or pop.  I heard only a couple of minor static ticks which are not intrusive in any way.  S4 if anything is even better!  The clarity and definition of the audio is exceptional and from the opening track to the final one the playback is faultless.  It may only be a compilation album but if you want a FINAL UPGRADE version then this is the one to own!

Visual grading

Both vinyls are visually stunning with an superb clean jet-black glossy sheen.  There are no marks or scratches and no obvious sleeve removal hairlines either, I have never seen better.  There is barely any spindle wear (almost zero!) which provides further evidence that they have hardly been played.  The audio certainly suggests that!

The Gatefold & Inners

The cover is in superb condition with hardly any shelf wear.  The edges are near perfect and the wide spine the same with no real wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are also very clean and the opening edges have next to no handling wear.  The front cover is immaculate and the back cover has just a few faint indents (must have been up against a Sticky Fingers at some point!) and a couple of faint fingerprint type marks.  There is also a small blue sticker top right.  The inside of the gatefold is in perfect condition.  The two original Decca inners (dated 9-75 and 10-75) are in superb condition also.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
