THE ROLLING STONES “Some Girls” 1978 Rare 1st Press w/Celeb Images & Pale Colors.
Really remarkable example of this important album by the Stones. Here is a first press from the Monarch Plant and 1st state package, with the celebrity images that were subsequently removed. Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Judy Garland’s estate, Raquel Welch, and Marilyn Monroe’s estate all sued for their image use without permission. The original package had die cut holes on the cover with images from the thick stock full color inner sleeve peering through the holes. Subsequent pressings had the die cuts with images removed, and later ones had no die cuts, just printed drawings on the cover. This original also has the “pale color bars” Yellowish, Blueish, Reddish, and Greenish plus the “Some Girls” title is printed in red. The vinyl is in excellent condition, shiny with no consequential marks, the cover and inner sleeve are also excellent, a couple of dings, but no damage or losses. This is a fabulous 1st state example of the U.S. pressing almost 45 years since release.
“Some Girls” was a come-back of sorts for The Rolling Stones. Their popularity was waning as punk, disco, and metal were on the rise. The album was mostly the work of Mick Jagger as Keith Richards was tied up with legal problems (drugs in Canada). Dance beats were featured, as were pop elements combined with the classic Stones sound. Ron Wood was now a full time member of the band, and his influence is apparent. The album was a major commercial success as over 6 million were sold in the U.S. alone. All of the songs are still familiar and heard today on Classic Rock radio.
