ULTRA RARE 1964 South African only press of The Rolling Stones’ self-titled LP (LK 4661), with the uber rare, unique artwork that has pink lettering!! By far, the rarest Stones LP from South Africa!!! Here is some interesting information on this unique piece (sourced from eil.com) :
''Simply titled 'Rolling Stones', this was their first release in South Africa in 1964. It is essentially the Stones' second UK LP (No. 2) with three different tracks; 'Little Red Rooster' replaces 'Grown Up Wrong', 'Not Fade Away' instead of 'Under The Boardwalk' plus 'I Wanna Be Your Man' in favour of 'Suzie-Q'.The front laminated flipback picture sleeve has a full band photo image and title in pink and white lettering, black on reverse.
Both the picture sleeve and title are UNIQUE to this particular South African release which was pressed EXCLUSIVELY in Rhodesia.
The sleeve has an inscription by Andrew Loog Oldham on the rear of the cover with the rare 'blind man' sleeve notes - the association with the blind led this particular text to be removed on later printings.''
The sleeve is in nice VG condition overall. Very very good front sleeve with faint wear – same as the back, with a light touch of ring-wear ; big permanent marker name top left corner of the back + very small pen name bottom right. Otherwise, had it not been for the pen names, it would have been VG+.
Please note the following on the vinyl: Sadly, this vinyl is graded Fair condition. Visually, there are plenty of noticeable surface marks/scratches scattered all about, so this disc has definitely been played quite a lot over the years. However the vinyl has been play-tested from start to finish to assess the playback, using a Pioneer PL200 audio system/turntable with a Numark stylus adjusted to a 2.5 gram weight. Audibly, it actually sounds quite normal which comes as a surprise considering the heavy marks – a testament to the superb quality of 60’s vinyl. There are light pops, static and crackle prominent as you would expect during and in between songs, though there were no skips on the system I used. This is my best assessment of the LP. Please consider strongly before bidding. I would like to ensure satisfaction for my buyers. Still a very rare LP which goodness knows how long will take to re-surface again.
The labels are in good condition, as there is small white paper loss on both sides of the labels, but other than that, still good.
This is right up there as one of the ultimate Stones collectibles you’ll ever find worldwide. An extremely rare South African press to delight 60’s and especially serious Stones’ collectors!!
