The Sensational Alex Harvey Band : Framed 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Vertigo Press 1973

This first pressing plays with stunning quality for the vast majority.  The genuine classic 'Isobel Goudie' plays with phenomenal audio and no interference.  I guess it's my favourite because it does have a real progressive sound to it!  The title track on S1 does have two light clicks but that is the only real intrusion on this side.  Overall the clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive.  S2 has some light static ticks during one section on the second track but otherwise plays with exceptional quality.  The vinyl is in lovely condition also and has clearly not been overplayed.

The die-cut cover is in excellent condition with minimal wear only and the original Vertigo inner is in very good shape.

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 Ex+ / T4 Near Mint)

The audio on S2 is Near Mint (T1 Near Mint- / T2 Ex- during one section / T3 NM intro then Mint-)

The die-cut gatefold is Ex

The Vertigo inner sleeve is VG+

The labels are Near Mint

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a small number of very faint hairlines with just one on S2 that is a little more obvious, still faint though!  There is no groove or surface wear, no 'bag rash', and the run outs are super clean.  The Vertigo labels are unmarked and have minimal spindle wear on S1 and just a little more on S2.  There is still some vinyl 'flecking' on the S2 label.

Play grading

The percussive intro on 'Framed' plays perfectly and as Cleminson's guitar comes in the audio is just as strong and clear.  Harvey's opening vocal section has no background at all and the following powerful section is faultless.  The next quieter vocal does have two dull clicks but no other background.  From then on it plays with tremendous power and definition and no other intrusion aside from one very light tick.  As per any clean Vertigo pressing it is sonically so impressive and apart from those two consecutive clicks the grade would be Mint- but as it is I will grade it as Ex+

'Hammer Song' plays with imperious quality through every section.  The intro has only a couple of minor statics and the first vocal is 'as new'.  The brief pause has one very quiet static tick and the following quieter sections plays with great clarity.  The instrumental is so deep and powerful and the concluding vocal is exactly the same.  A Mint- version.

The intro on 'Midnight Moses' is superb!  Again the depth on the audio is as deep as it could go!  This 'high end' level is prevalent throughout and I only 'picked' up one minor static.  I think!  The sonic quality here is amazing Mint- is well deserved.

'Virgin And The Hunter', the first part of 'Isobel Goudie' plays with stunning clarity and Harvey's opening vocal is on that same level.  The first dynamic chorus is so powerful with barely any inner groove distortion and the next verse has no intrusion either.  The remainder is just as impressive - a great track and a stunning version.  The first half of 'My Lady Of The Night' is quieter and yet the clarity of sound is superb for a vinyl of this age and the second half plays very clearly and again there is no obvious distortion.  The 'heavy' intro on 'Coitus Interruptus' plays with great power and definition as does the first vocal section.  The brief quieter passage has a couple of light statics and the final vocal (a reprise of 'Virgin And The Hunter' maybe?) plays with genuine quality also.  It's been years since I played this track and I had forgotten just how good it was.  I'll call it Near Mint

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'Buff's Bar Blues' is as close to perfect as could be with only a handful of barely audible statics and the opening vocal is much the same.  It proceeds in much the same way - the mid instrumental does have 3/4 light ticks but again they really are not intrusive and the final vocal section has no background at all.  Near Mint- is fair.

The piano intro on 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' has minimal light static and the first vocal is very clean with only a couple of light ticks.  The are some static ticks in the background during the next vocal / instrumental but they are not loud of course.  By the halfway point this has stopped and the quieter mid section plays with great clarity.  The next vocal is faultless and the closing brass section / vocal has no interference either.  The majority here is Near Mint but I will grade that one section as Ex-

The intro on 'Hole In Her Stocking' has just one light tick and the first vocal is perfect.  The sax mid section could not play any better and the remainder is of the same standard.  A Near Mint intro and then Mint- from that point on.  It really 'rocks out' with great power and depth.

The intro on 'There's No Lights On The Christmas Tree...' plays with sublime clarity and the opening vocal has no background.  So far so good.  The chorus keeps up the standard and it continues in the same way.  The playback is very clean and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  A track with Harvey's unique spin on it - a minimal amount of inner groove distortion on the final section and Near Mint is deserved as a minimum.

'St. Anthony' ends the album with very powerful, clean audio from start to finish.  Sonically it is very strong for a final track and there is no discernible distortion.  The quieter mid section has not even a single static sound and the rest of this high energy number plays with impeccable quality.  Easily a Near Mint version.

The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve

The die-cut cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear.  The edges have hardly any rubbing and the spine just has some light wear on the front cover edge and a little wear on the corners.  The right hand corners have very light wear and the front cover is in great shape with barely any marking - there is a small crease in the top left corner.  The back cover is just as impressive and the inside of the gatefold is very clean with only some faint age related marking around the edges of the left panel plus minor rubbing on the top edge.  The right panel is is superb order as is the opening edge next to the inner spine.  A very strong example overall.

The Vertigo inner has one small bottom edge split and a larger one of the left side but is very clean overall.  It has some age related fading and some glue residue showing through on the top and bottom edge but there is very little creasing.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
