THE SMITHS LP MEAT IS MURDER. This ALLIED PRESSING was released in 1985 on SIRE RECORDS, CAT# 125269. The Smiths were one of the great bands of the 80s. Far to many bands at the time, particularly bands from the 60s or 70s felt lost in the 80s. It was a time when punk had spiked, and New Wave was a thing. MTV was also having artists rethink a new normal. And, far to many bands tried to go with the times instead of just doing what felt right and natural for them. As a result, there was a lot of uninspired music at the time. The bands that had a language that pushed rock in a forward direction, but weren't going outside of themselves to express it, were the great ones. The Smiths, The Clash, Talking Heads, Eurythmics, Elvis C., and Joe Jackson quickly come to mind. This Smiths LP is a gem of an LP. The interplay between the guitar work of Johnny Marr, and the vocals of Morrissey is perfection. As long as they live, neither of them will ever approach what they did together on their solo efforts. They were a perfect pair for too short a time. This copy is in amazing condition. It has full gloss, and looks and plays as new all around. The COVER is still in shrink, and NEAR MINT. The ORIGINAL INNER is perfect, an outstanding inner. And the VINYL is gorgeous, and plays 100% perfect. It's wonderful to see a copy like this that's been so well cared for over 35 years.
Allied Pressing with label variation: 1) "SIRE®" appears to right of Sire logo; 2) rim text along bottom reads "Sire Records Company - Marketed by Warner Bros. Records, Inc. - 3300 Warner Blvd. , Burbank, Calif. 91510 - Made in U.S.A."
"SLM ?" in the runout etching indicates that the lacquer disc was processed at, and the metal parts used to manufacture the record were made at Sheffield Lab Matrix.
