Here`s a RARE, very early UK pressing of The Soft Boys classic "Underwater Moonlight", issued on Armageddon Records (June 1980).
"The Soft Boys' 1980 masterpiece, Underwater Moonlight, is probably best known for inspiring a laundry list of 80s-90s alternative greats, including R.E.M., the Flaming Lips, and the Replacements. This lineage speaks broadly to the record's sound-- if you guessed that Underwater Moonlight is "jangly" and "melodic" but "off-kilter," you wouldn't be wrong. But the Soft Boys did not simply provide a rough template to be polished and perfected by their better-known successors.
(...) Underwater Moonlight offers a uniquely tinted play of darkness and light that befits its title. Lechery and romance are in frequent tension, to the point where you sometimes can't tell which is which. (...) That this album flopped upon its initial release is largely a function of bad timing; hot on the heels of punk, there was little interest in a group of four unapologetically middle-class Brits making music that incorporated the indelible harmonies of the Byrds and the surrealism of Syd Barrett. GRADING:
MINT- COVER with only minimal wear. Please see photos for details.
- Small scuffed area on unlaminated rear cover (at top left), as well as minimal edge wear (at bottom left).
- The laminated front sleeve is pretty much perfect, with no creasing , scuffing or other wear at all.
MINT(-) RECORD, played a very few times at most.
- A few minimal hairlines, from sleeve removal only.
- Original UK first pressing Armageddon Records labels with no spindle wear whatsoever.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ARM - 001 - A2" and "ARM - 001 - B2", making this an early original UK pressing of "Underwater Moonlight".
PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay, this item is in honestly-graded MINT- condition: You will not find another copy of "Underwater Moonlight" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price. "True value for money" is the motto here!
