THE SOULBENDERS - "Hey Joe / I Can't Believe In Love"
1967 Private issue 45 rpm
Visually Graded Condition of disc: VG++
(The Soulbenders was a band that I created and fronted in 1967 here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was the keyboardist and lead singer. Never in my dreams would I have expected our two singles to do as well as they did. This one stayed at the #1 position on the local WLAV chart for six weeks. I was 18 when I had these pressed and I foolishly never cared about keeping any perfect mint copies around - I was just a kid. 3,000 total were pressed and all sold out. I only kept a few copies for myself.
This was recorded at the infamous Great Lakes studios in Sparta Michigan, home of Fenton records. I purposefully declined to put this on the Fenton label because I saw no point in sharing the profits with anyone else except my fellow band members, so we put it out ourselves on our own label. My good friend David Kalmbach was the engineer of these sessions and most others of the Fenton family.
This copy is one of the best copies I still have. No point in holding on to these anymore as I'm getting up in years. The disc is in nice shape with a few marks but nothing severe. Instead of trying to explain them, I've included instead FULL ACTUAL clips of both sides in their entirety below, so you can judge for yourself. This copy was only played a few times.
The sleeve is pretty close to near mint. I only have a few that aren't trashed and this is one of them. Use the zoom feature on the photo to inspect carefully. The winner of this disc will also get an original Soulbenders business card, shown in the last photo. They were printed in 1968 after the release of our 2nd single "7 & 7 Is' which ended up on the Mala label and distributed nationally)

MY GRADING SCALE
(very similar to the Goldmine standard)
NM (Near Mint): Record will show no serious scuffs or scratches in the playing area. May have minor scuffs on edges from decades of storage, or a small scuff, scratch or paper scuff on playing area.
It's near mint, not mint (which would be 'sealed' to me). There should be no audible distractions.
NM- (Near Mint minus): A scuff or two or light scratch or two on either or both sides that may be heard.
VG+: Scuffs & some minor scratches in the playing area. Some will most likely be heard.
VG: Many scuffs or scratches that will be heard but record should still play fine.
