Description
THE TEDDY BEARS SING! 1959 PHIL SPECTOR
IMPERIAL LP9067 DG MONO
Apart from the music this is a key piece of pop culture history
The Teddy Bears were Phil Spector’s first group, and his first LP (coming off their single success “To Know Him is to Love Him” in 1958).
The 18 years old Spector is on the cover on the right with Marshall Lieb and Annette Kleinbard. He produced the disc also and plays guitar and piano.
The production is proto Specter, pre wall of sound but with all the ideas of layering in dimensions of sonic interest to create a sonic whole coming together. The songs are standard pop wonder of love and loss, the cover says it all, but the music has fine moments ("I don't need you anymore", "Don't Go Away" both penned by Spector) and can sustain multiple listening. Especially if you love the era and are interested in the history of popular music from soul to Beatles.
The disc is in nice shape it has been played there is a some surface noise but it does not intrude. The disc is musical: playable and enjoyable. Visually it’s a vg some scuffs some surface scratches nothing evil. All in all a fine record (I am listening to it as I write).
The sleeve is excellent the front picture is vibrant with no ring or color fade/chipping. The back is white and clean with just a bit of aging discoloration around the edges. The edges are very good all around with some chipping on the bottom and top there is no splitting at entry. It would be a NM if not for the little chipping top and bottom because the rest is really clean.
This is special disc in fine collectible condition, the sleeve is super nice, and the disc is musically all there just showing some of its 57 years.
I am shipping the disc in a MOFI anti-scratch, anti-static master sleeve.
I ship usps priority 2 day, the US post built the country, it is our most treasured institution we should all support it against efforts to privatize and destroy it.

ABOUT ME AND GRADING
I listen to the entire record if possible before I list (I did not make it through a 5 disc Wagner Der Walkure). I am not one of those sellers who is looking at the disc under a 500 watt bulb worried about how to describe scratches. I am interested letting you know how the disc looks, what the obvious and less obvious marks are but more importantly I am interested, like you, in how the disc sounds. Many discs were printed poorly or played allot and have surface noise that is not visual. To be locked into how many surface scuffs and scratches is have half of the story, and not hear any of it.
I am a fair grader and my system is unforgiving, I use an Ortophon 2 red with an Audio-Technica 1240 (tracking 1.8g), a Marantz pm 6005 and Bowers and Wilkins speakers, little escapes unheard). Before you purchase a record from me I want you to know as close as is possible (listening is a subjective art) what you are getting.
