Description

THE TROGGS  Promo  45  "WILD THING"*  entered the Billboard Hot 100 on issue date May 30, 1966, then in early July, it leaped to #6, eventually rising to #2 where it remained for next 2 weeks (Jul 16 & Jul 23), "Hanky Panky" occupied  the top spot. On July 30, 1966, it hit #1, where it remained for 2 weeks, ultimately logging eleven weeks on the chart, with eight of those weeks in the Top 10.   b/w    "FROM HOME"

*due to a distribution dispute, the single was available on two competing labels: Atco & Fontana, and since both pressings were taken from the identical master recording, Billboard combined the sales for both releases, making it the only single to simultaneously reach #1 for two labels. -- Atco's credits of both sides are reversed as "Wild Thing" credited to Reg Presley and its B-side, "With a Girl Like You", to Chip Taylor. On the Fontana label, "Wild Thing" is correctly credited to Chip Taylor and the flip contains a different song, "FROM HOME", by Reg Presley. This Fontana label credits production to Page One Productions, England, while the Atco label credits production as "A Larry Page Production, Recorded in England". One further difference between the two, is that there is a noticeable "click" on the Atco single after Presley says "You move me" and just before the music starts again; this click is edited out of the Fontana version.

Vinyl is strong VG++ to Near Mint-  (date stamp on B side)
