Description

ARTIST / TITLE THE VARIATIONS
DIG EM UP!
RECORD LABEL / NUMBER JUSTICE Records  J-LP-112
(WINSTON-SALEM, NC)

This is a rare one indeed.  A garage band from the mid 1960's mixing musical genres well and covering soul tunes, The Variations were a unique band.  Though these guys were young, they were very talented.  This record is on the Justice label and was pressed in Winston-Salem, NC.  Nice cover pic shows the band traveled in a hearse complete with a coffin on top... in the picture the fellas are wearing what looks like Dracula capes!  This just adds to the coolness of this record.  A real find that doesn't pop up for sale often.

The vinyl is in VG+ to VG++ condition

Surface of disc has a nice shine as the pictures show.  The vinyl has a few very very light, small scuffs that are faintly visible and several very light needle marks are very lightly detectable to the touch.  I use four point lights to inspect the vinyl properly. Playback is continuous with loud music and low background noise.  There are some pops and clicks intermittently as some of those marks I mentioned previously are passed.  This is both a visual grade as well as a play grade.  Check out the video for not only a typical clip of the record's sound but also additional information on the cover:

The cover is in VG+ condition
There are no splits and the cover has survived quite well, there is no inner sleeve and the record slides in tight. Labels are clean with the exception of some light needle marks.  The cover is as shown in the many pictures included here. There are some small and light print chips in the edge in several spots and the top left corner has some wear and missing print. Generally light contact wear is present but is rather minimal, some stray blue / black ink stains are visible in several locations.  Back cover has some foxing (yellowing) from age, but in general looks great as all the print is completely clear and legible.

I grade conservatively and take a lot of time to properly list my records so please bid with confidence.  If you have any questions, please contact me through the 'ask seller a question' link on this page.

"Goldmine Standard" grading:
SS = Still Sealed
Never opened. Any flaws (torn shrinkrwrap, creasing) will be indicated in the description.

NM- = Near Mint Minus
Has been opened, but is still flawless
with no damage whatsoever.

VG+ = Very Good Plus
- Vinyl: May have scuff marks and signs of some wear but will still play almost perfectly throughout, with only "barely detectable" crackles or pops. A slight noise at the begining is allowable, but the remainder must be nearly flawless.
- Cover: May only have the slightest signs of normal wear.

VG = Very Good
The majority of records (worth selling) fall under this grade.
- Vinyl: May crackle, pop or make other annoying noises, but only occasionally,never continuously, and not more loudly than the music being listened to.
- Cover: Normal used cover wear such as ring wear and split seams. If there is abnormal damage such as tears or markings, but the seller still feels that it qualifies as a

"VG", the damage must be described in comments attached to the item.

G+ = Good Plus
- Vinyl: May have continuous crackles, pops, etc... but not so loud as to make the music completely unenjoyable for the casual listener.
- Cover: More than normal wear and tear.

Jackson Heights were an English rock band, led by bassist and vocalist Lee Jackson, that ran from 1970 to 1973. Other players included Brian Chatton (born Brian Charles Chatton, 19 July 1948, Bolton, Lancashire), Dave Watts (ex-Tornados; from Bromley, Kent) playing keyboards and King Crimson's drummers Michael Giles and Ian Wallace.

Their debut album King Progress included a reworking of "The Cry Of Eugene", a track originally by The Nice on their first album, The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack, as well as original material including "Doubting Thomas" and "Insomnia".

Vocalist John McBurnie would later work with Patrick Moraz, who was in Refugee with Jackson.
