Description
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO. 1st pressing in MONO of the Velvet Underground's self titled maiden voyage featuring law suit sticker on back cover to censor Andy Warhol actor Eric Emerson. East Coast pressing as indicated by "Side 1 and Side 2". Matrix information: Side 1: V 5008 SIDE 1 MG 558 REV 12 1 "S" SIDE 2: V 5008 SIDE 2 MG 559 "S"
Thick vinyl is in VG++, very clean and rare to find in this condition! A few light marks that do not affect play, glossy and barely played. I tested the record ll the way through and condition reflects the audio quality of this pressing!! If you haven't listened to this release in MONO, you haven't heard this album!!! Like night and the day, the mono mix is fuller and more balanced with louder and punchier sound. There is some crackle here and there, but overall a VG++ listening experience. I have had quite a few copies of this album change hands with me and I have never seen a copy so clean!
The cover is in VG, featuring the entire banana which is very very hard to find. A previous owner has removed then replaced the top portion of the banana, there is some raised areas of the top portion and there is a small tear near the stem, there is a small tear and some wear on the bottom stem (see photos).
The back cover has wear and tears on the lawsuit sticker, there is some ring wear and yellowing. The inner gatefold image looks excellent, some yellowing. The spine looks great, solid and all there. There is a bump on the seam visible in the photos. The top seams look to have been repaired, so most of the seams were at one time split, but the repair keeps them all together. The inner seam of the front gatefold is split and not repaired (see photos).

[Uncredited Info]:
The actor Eric Emerson, protagonist of some multimedia films projected behind the group during the EPI, filed a lawsuit against the record label for the non-payment of the rights regarding his image that can be seen upside down on the back cover of the first version. So between March and April 1967 the album was suddenly withdrawn from trade and shops. After a few months, the album was redistributed in a few copies with a huge sticker that covered the top of the offending photo and that you can see in this release.
