“The Velvet Underground & Nico”
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO
Ultra rare copy of The Velvet Underground & Nico very early 1st West Coast, Burbank, California pressing, significantly rarer than its East Coast counterpart, with an unpeeled classic Andy Warhol's banana sticker and 1st state uncensored gatefold cover. This is a so-called "Torso" cover with an image of a dancer and actor Eric Emerson, who starred in Andy Warhol's movies and was a protagonist of some multimedia films projected behind the band during one of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable (EPI) events, organized by Andy Warhol between 1966 and 1967. After the album was released, Emerson, dissatisfied with the fact that his image was used on the album's back cover without his permission, threatened to file a lawsuit against the record label, if his image wasn't removed from the cover. As a result of the compromise, the album was suddenly withdrawn between March and April 1967 and was then redistributed with the image of Emerson being covered with a large black sticker on the copies that contained the image, and was then airbrushed on all of the subsequent pressings. This copy is the earliest 1st Mono pressing and one among a few uncensored copies with a fully visible Emerson's image on the back cover without the black sticker. Andy Warhol's banana sticker remains unpeeled, fully intact and has been preserved beautifully, without any tears, thanks to the original distributor baggy. The front of the baggy contains a yellow “Factory Sealed and Fully Guaranteed” banner, a yellow “Nationally Advertised Retail Price $4.98” price seal and a white “Retail Price 10.1 4.98 Discount Price $3.99” price tag below the seal. The baggy is in great condition, without any splits, and is opened at the bottom of the cover as oppose to the mouth. The cover is very clean without any ring wear on the front or back. Some light occasional edge and corner wear. Just like the cover, the gatefold interior is very clean and contains a fully intact paste over slick. Rigid spine with a fully readable text, containing the V-5008 catalog number. The thick heavyweight vinyl is somewhere between Very Good and Very Good Plus. I’m going to grade it conservatively as Side 1: Strong Very Good and Side 2: Very Good. The vinyl, containing some light hairlines, marks and scuffs from the inner sleeve, none of which can be felt with a finger nail, has been cleaned with a VPI record cleaner. The West Coast Mono V-5008 labels contain a 2.75’ deep groove pressing ring and are super clean, without having any wear or scuffs, only containing some very light spindle marks, most of which are visible under a bright light source. Very early 1st print West Coast deep groove labels with Side 2, containing 2 misprints of the timing for
-“I’ll Be Your Mirror," indicating 2:01 as oppose to the correct one 2:10
- “Black Angel’s Death Song,” indicating 3:01 as oppose to the correct one 3:10.
The labels are very clean, having some very light spindle marks seen under a strong light source. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - V-5008-S-I MG-558-REV / Side 2 -V-5008-S-2 MG-559. The album comes with the original Verve Records paper inner sleeve with the photos of Verve' Jazz musicians in Near Mint Minus condition without any splits.

POLICY:
Realizing how important it is to secure the safety of the item you've paid your money for, I'll put my best effort into packing the records as best as possible, triple boxing them into the specialized professional boxes, with the two outer boxes having a special construction with extended cardboard on the edges to prevent the record covers' corners from getting damaged during the transit, and will also put the vinyl outside of the cover (of course, unless it's a sealed record) to prevent the splitting. I always try responding to the messages, but please, before sending me a message, make sure that the answer to your question isn't included in the description. I'll use my right to block a buyer, who doesn't correspond to my idea of politeness, culture and respect toward each other. If you want to participate in my auction, please be honest and positive, and I'll be mutual with you. I'll remove the bids of a buyer with zero rating, unless he contacts me prior to placing a bid.
