  THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO

 VERVE RECORDS MONO V-5008

Ultra rare copy of the 1st album The Velvet Underground & Nico very early 1st East Coast pressing with an unpeeled classic Andy Warhol's banana sticker and 1st state uncensored gatefold cover. This is a so-called "Torso" cover with an image of a dancer and actor Eric Emerson, who starred in Andy Warhol's movies. His image was inverted and placed on the back cover of the album. After the album was released, Emerson, dissatisfied with the fact that his image was used on the album's cover without his permission, threatened to file a lawsuit against the record label, if his image wasn't removed from the cover. As a result of the compromise, the image of Emerson was covered with a large black sticker on the copies that contained the image, and was then airbrushed on all of the subsequent pressings. This copy is the earliest 1st Mono pressing and one among a few number uncensored copies with a fully visible Emerson's torso on the back cover without a black sticker.

CONDITION:

VINYL - EXCELLENT MINUS (EX-)  The vinyl has a misprint Verve Records label as the Side 2 label indicates a wrong running time for the "I'll Be Your Mirror" track, reading 2:01 instead of the correct one of 2:10. The labels are very clean, which is rarely seen among these copies, having only a few very light spindle marks, which can be seen under a strong light source. I grade the vinyl as Excellent Minus with Side 2 being in a slightly better condition than Side 1, which has a few very light surface hairlines and scuffs from the inner sleeve. The album comes with the original Verve Records "The jazz of America is on Verve. The wit of America is on Verve" paper inner sleeve.

COVER -  EXCELLENT MINUS (EX-)  The cover remains in the original protective baggy. I've listed several photos of the cover inside the baggy along with the photos without it. This copy contains an unpeeled Andy Warhol's banana sticker, in a fully intact condition, only having a few signs of damage, which have been carefully restored. The front cover also contains a blank catalog sticker at the bottom right corner. Neither the front nor the back cover have any ring wear, tears, writing, staining or soiling. It's a very solid copy in general and I grade it as Excellent even though the cover has a few small flaws, including some corner wear and wear along the front of the front panel. The cover is very clean, including the gatefold interior, which doesn't have any splitting along the spine, which is quite common among similar copies. The interior slick doesn't have any tears or wear.

POLICY

Realizing how important it is to secure the safety of the item you've paid your money for, I'll put my best effort into packing the records as best as possible, triple boxing them into the specialized professional boxes, with the two outer boxes having a special construction with extended cardboard on the edges to prevent the record covers' corners from getting damaged during the transit, and will also put the vinyl outside of the cover (of course, unless it's a sealed record) to prevent the splitting. I always try responding to the messages, but please, before sending me a message, make sure that the answer to your question isn't included in the description. I'll use my right to block a buyer, who doesn't correspond to my idea of politeness, culture and respect toward each other. If you want to participate in my auction, please be honest and positive, and I'll be mutual with you. I'll remove the bids of a buyer with zero rating, unless he contacts me prior to placing a bid. Unfortunately, I don't ship to Germany or Russia. I apologize to the buyers from these countries in advance.
