Description

A genuinely important piece of Velvet Underground history. This is the 1973 UK Atlantic promotional pressing of "Sweet Jane" backed with "Rock & Roll," stamped not for sale and withheld from general release. Both songs are drawn from Loaded, the band's final studio album with Lou Reed, and stand among the most enduring tracks the Velvet Underground ever recorded.
Despite the strength of the songs, this single flopped commercially on release, with UK radio largely ignoring it at the time. That lack of airplay and the small scale of the original promo run are exactly why genuine copies rarely surface today. Owning one is owning a piece of the gap between how influential this band became and how little recognition they received while they were actually working.
For collectors of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, or early 70s Atlantic era rock singles, this is a rare opportunity to own an original promotional pressing of two songs that have gone on to define the band's legacy.
