THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

 M-G-M RECORDS STEREO SE-4617

SPECIAL DISC JOCKEY RECORD

Incredibly rare promotional pre-release copy Special Disc Jockey MGM Record of the third Velvet Underground studio album, released in 1969. The semi-gloss cover is in great condition. If you set a goal of finding another cover of this album in excellent condition, I assure you won’t as all of them have a ring wear. The top right corner has a neon red rectangular sticker with a black «DJ Not For Sale» in the center. The bottom left corner has a promotional punch hole right above the «Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. / Printed in U.S.A.» text. CLOSET MIX! This promotional copy contains the closet mix done by Lou Reed and has a more expressive vocals and vivid guitar solos, reducing the level of other instruments. These features in particular differentiate the mix from the more widely distributed mix done by MGM / Verve staff engineer Val Valentin. The biggest difference between the mixes is that the two versions also use an entirely different performance of «Some Kinda Love», which was taken from the same recording sessions. East Coast’s MGM Records Yellow Promotional Labels have an MGM Special Disc Jockey Record banner at the top center on both sides and the text indicating that the record was not to be sold. Side A has a misprint, listing What Goes On as 3:35 instead of 4:52 as correctly listed on the back cover, along with a date «APR 7 1969» stamp. The original stamp practically corresponds to the release date of the album in March 1969 and was done most likely at one of the local radio stations. The copy comes with the original paper color print MGM Records «The Sounds of «Now» on MGM Records».

COVER - EXCELLENT MINUS (EX-) The cover is in great condition without almost any ring wear (There’re only a few insignificant hints of it at the center right of the front cover). The mouth has a little half an inch bumping at the mouth below the center. Some very light occasional corner wear. The spine is sturdy with a fully readable text. The back cover slick doesn’t have any tears or scuffing and is in pristine condition. Great example!

VINYL - VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) The vinyl has a glossy shine, containing some very light surface marks and scuffs from the paper inner sleeve. There aren’t any deep hairlines or scratches that could be felt with a finger nail. The labels are gorgeous and very clean, only having some light spindle marks, seen only under a certain light angle.

POLICY

Realizing how important it is to secure the safety of the item you've paid your money for, I'll put my best effort into packing the records as best as possible, triple boxing them into the specialized professional boxes, with the two outer boxes having a special construction with extended cardboard on the edges to prevent the record covers' corners from getting damaged during the transit, and will also put the vinyl outside of the cover (of course, unless it's a sealed record) to prevent the splitting. I always try responding to the messages, but please, before sending me a message, make sure that the answer to your question isn't included in the description. I'll use my right to block a buyer, who doesn't correspond to my idea of politeness, culture and respect toward each other. If you want to participate in my auction, please be honest and positive, and I'll be mutual with you. I'll remove the bids of a buyer with zero rating, unless he contacts me prior to placing a bid. Unfortunately, I don't ship to Germany or Russia. I apologize to the buyers from these countries in advance.
