Description
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. Any significant playing defects will be detailed in the description below. I know how disappointing it is to receive a record graded as excellent, only to find that listening pleasure is spoiled by endless pops, loud clicks and intrusive background crackle. I guarantee that you will not buy such a record from me!!
The winning bidder can expect to receive a clean record, carefully packaged, with the vinyl removed from the inner and outer sleeves to prevent splits in transit.
Here for auction is a lovely example of the classic second album by THE WHO titled “A QUICK ONE”, Catalogue Number 593 002. This is an ORIGINAL 1966 UK MONO 1st PRESSING on the REACTION LABEL, with 1st ISSUE FULLY LAMINATED E.J.DAY SLEEVE, and THE EARLIEST DOUBLE-RIDGED ROUGH TEXTURED LABELS.
The fully-laminated single sleeve, printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London, is in VERY GOOD+ CONDITION (strictly graded). The front and back covers are unmarked, with only a few light creases, mostly near the edges. There is just a little lifting of the laminate near the spine. The vivid colours have not faded. The top and bottom edges are excellent with only the lightest of storage wear. The opening edges are free from damage with only very light feathering. The corners are fairly square with a little rubbing at the tips. The spine is square and solid with only a couple of tiny creases. The spine ends are neatly crimped and all text is clearly legible. There are no rips, stickers or writing. Overall a very well preserved 1st issue sleeve!!
The record is a beautiful Reaction heavyweight with a thick, square-cut rim edge. It retains a deep mirror like shine and sits flat and true on the turntable.
The matrix numbers and stampers are:
Side 1 – 593002 A//2 1 1 1 9
Side 2 – 593002 B//2 1 1 1 4
Visually there are just light surface marks evident which have very little effect upon play. I would grade Side 1 as close to EX and Side2 as VG. The beautiful blue rough textured Reaction labels are unmarked apart from a faint outline on the Side 1 label where a small sticker has been removed (no damage), and a few light spindle traces near the centres. There is barely any wear around the centre hole. I am confident that the record has not been played very many times.
PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:
This is the loudest cut pressing that I have in my record collection. The raw and vibrant mono delivery really is quite incredible. All frequencies play crystal clear and there is barely any discernable deterioration in the sound quality. Both sides play to a very high standard with very low levels of unwanted noise. A better playing copy may be very difficult to find!!
Complete with the original poly-lined white inner sleeve which is in very good condition, with no split edges, just light creasing and minor age discoloration. “British Patent No..” and MADE IN ENGLAND” text is printed in blue at the bottom.
OVERALL A SUPERB COMPLETE 1st PRESS EXAMPLE OF THIS CLASSIC ALBUM WITH A LOVELY SLEEVE AND FANTASTIC PLAYBACK - DON’T MISS THIS ONE!!!

The UK postage cost includes insurance up to a value of £32. If the final sale price is more than this, your invoice will include an insurance option. The same applies as specified in the above paragraph.

Please don't be put off by the visual grading. Although the record has a few surface marks from careless use, it hasn't been played many times. There is no groovewear evident and it sounds essentially as good as new.
